Hawaiian Earthquake: Anyone heard from RangerREG?

FWIW, one of the last two large Hawaiian earthquakes before this latest one, I was there on the big island when it happened. Vacation during 4th grade. Ground felt like a waterbed.

Glad to hear that everyone there is doing well outside of the inconveniance.

Good to know you and the other islanders are okay. I can't imagine being in a decent quake. I've been in one as high as a 3.3 but that's nothing to yours.

He he... I was less than 10 miles from the epicenter of the Loma Prieta quake in '89 - 17 years ago today, as a matter of fact. 6.9 on the richter scale.

You're not in Florida, so you're fairly safe. :)

Hah! Try living near the California coast right near the Andreas fault. Phooey. :p But I'd rather be here than any place else ... although when earthquakes do hit they are kinda scary - to say the least!

My parents live on an island off the south coast of Alaska and they get a couple earthquakes every year ... AND tsunamis every so often. Now THAT is scary.

:uhoh:

We had a bunch of old footage on the local TV about it today.

I was in Seaside, getting into the shower after work. Ended up helping get an old woman out of her home in Santa Cruz- she was surrounded by broken glass and could not get out of her chair. I was asked to hike into her home to find out how she was- long dammed walk. :)

In your birthday suit, or did you have a towel on you?

I know the power is still out in many parts of Hawaii so REG might not have internet access back up yet. I hope he's okay.
Well, I don't know if DSL broadband was working since I'm a dial-up customer. AFAIK, the telephone line is working (luckily I had a backup CORDED phone) during the island-wide outage because Hawaiian Telcom have a backup power generator that feeds through their lines anyway.

But it is the power outage that keeps my desktop puter from powering up.

Yeah, I think my next (or replacement) PC will have to be a laptop ... with spare fully-charged batteries (plural). Anybody know where I could shop for a hardcase laptop, the kind Hawkins used on the Jericho TV series?

LOL

I suppose I should have assumed that someone would see it that way. No, I had started the shower, the quake hit, power went out, but I managed a cold shower, then dressed and went to my Dad's to make sure he was okay. He got a call from a friend that had a mother that lived in the hills above Santa Cruz. Dad dropped me off with directions, and I started walking some time that night, the following morning I arrived.
