heavy armor fighter - dwarf only?

I am trying very hard here, but is there a reason not to be a dwarf over a human if one is a heavy-armor and shield type fighter? You get more hp than a human, you effectively get a "free" feat to get proficiency in a one-handed beater weapon (d.waraxe), your movement is no slower than anyone elses. You only lose out on skill points.

And that is before factoring in other dwarf abilities, like combat benefits vs. certain monsters and darkvision.

You haven't missed anything. You've outlined the reasons why many people think that the 3.5 revision has made dwarves the most powerful race.

Other than character concept? Not really.

I'm almost always human just for the extra feat. It allows my 1st level characters to actually be able to pull off the beginning of their particular fighting style.

I also usually go with the longsword, because its the most common lootable weapon. You are almost guaranteed to come along several as booty in your adventuring career.

Or you could be an elf or half-elf, put your Dex way up there and go for Champion of Corellon ASAP, becoming a heavy-armored, high-Dex, Weapon Finessing, Spring Attacking fiend.

It's easiest to do it with a dwarf, but you can do it with the other races, too.

Though, admittedly, I couldn't get my heavy armor-wearing fighter's movement up to 40'/move without her being a dwarf.

I'm bored with dwarves. Just to be different, make an elf heavy-armor fighter.
