Heavy Metal magazine

It's not the storylines that bother me right now. I picked up a copy about two months ago, and really enjoyed the stories... it was the sheer quantity of pr0n advertising between stories that killed it for me.

I remember Slaine, Mercenary and Den. Mercenary had the mood that I would like to create in my games. Slaine was pretty weird and Den was just plain bizarre (even when you exclude the fact that Den is always stark naked. There was also this fantastic comic about a bunch of dwarves hiring an elf and buys a "half-orc" to embark on an epic quest of sorts. Yeah.

I agree. I got into the mag in '93 and somewhere around '97, it just changed, and hasn't recovered (from what the occasional glance tells me.)

There are still good stories occasionally. "The Gypsy" series is one of my favorites. The May 2000 issue had part 3 (The Day of the Czar) and there was at least another part since then.
Overall I don't mind the sex aspect, but wish more stories would focus on other things, like cool characters, situations, and plot. I'm not wanting the sex to go away, just shift the focus a bit...
I don't use much of HM in D&D, since most of the stories are set in SF or modern era. Love reading it though.
