Hehe, new toys

Cerubus Dark

First Post
Hehe, in my HomeBrew world I like adding "Leveled Weapons" its a great way to reduce the amount of magical items floating around plus it gives the Hero's something to really fun to beat the crap out of a monster with.

Here is a fun one for Hero's to have.

Forutune's Blade (Forutune breaker)
This rather unusual blade appears to be made of solid gold when first seen. Upon picking it up though, the wielder finds that the blade ways almost nothing.

When this blade is first aquired it is level 1. It is in all respects a long sword, but it wieghs only 1 pound.
Level exp needed damage bonus special
Level 1 1,000exp d8 +1 ---
Level 2 3,500exp d8 +2 ---
Level 3 5,700exp d10 +3 Haste (d3/day)
Level 4 8,900exp d10 +4 Haste (d3/day)/ Stoneskin 1/day
Level 5 12,700exp 2d10 +5 Haste (d3/day)/ Stoneskin 2/day

Upon reaching its third level the Forutune's Blade size becomes equal to that of a bastard sword.

All spells are cast as if they were cast by a 20 level wizard.

Unlike most leveled treasures the Forutune's Blade gains its experaince a bit diffrently. Inorder to "power it up" the owner must be willing to sacrifice his gold to the weapon. The rate for exp to gold is as follows 1 exp = 200gp. That is how the sword also became known as the Forutune Breaker.

To level up the weapon the Owner must also meet a level requirement.
Weapon Level Owner's Level
Level 1 Any
Level 2 Level 5
Level 3 Level 9
Level 4 Level 14
Level 5 Level 19

This one is mild next to some of the others I have in my game.

Edit (added the size/type change)

Just wondering why it gets a damage die bump. Even a magical artifact like the sword of kas does its base damage, does the fortune breaker turn into a bastard sword or something?

Also, its a neat idea but doesn't get intersting till youve poured a lot of gold into it. Maybe if it had some earlier weaker abilities that made it distinctive it would be nice.

I could see a personality on this sword also, very easily ;)

Hey, how bout you postin a system for makin this kind of thing? like ability lists (you don't have to list *every possable spell*, just general guidelines), and tables of how powerful a 'level' is depending on how much XP/GP you put into it? That would be cool; letting PCs create their own ancestral weapon and stuff.

I def like the idea. One of my characters is very veyt attached to his great axe. (okay I am hehe!) As I leveled, it would occasionally sprout a new ability. Even when a better axe came along, I still used my weaker axe. I only made the switch when the DM left me no other choice (stripped my axe of its powers).

Opps I knew I forgot something! Yes it becomes a bastard sword. This one is just a minor weapon, not much to it the others are more powerful than this peice of junk. :D
