Heighten and Epic Metamagic

Hello,

How does the epic Metamagic feat (reduces all MM costs by one level/2 Psps) interact with the Heighten power feat?

I have a few thoughts, although I have no idea which one is the correct intrepretation. One is that they do not interact at all because heighten does not raise the cost of a spell, it changes its cost to the price of a spell of the effective level

Another is that you choose you new level and then subtract one from the increase, so say you wanted to cast haste as a seventh level spell, you would only need to raise it up to a sixth level power as one level is free.

Any other thoughts or even better the actual rules?

Thanks

I'm not sure I know what feat you're thinking of. Do you happen to know the actual name of the feat?

EDIT: Never mind. I found it. It's called Improved Metamagic. It reduces the spell slot modifier for all your metamagic feats by 1, to a minimum of 1. The Souljourner is correct. It doesn't affect metamagic feats whose spell slot modifier is +1 or less, so it doesn't affect Heighten Spell at all.

The feat is from the epic Level Handbook, and there is a PRC from T&B that has it as well.

It is called Improved MetaMagic

The benefit is that all meta magic costs are reduced by one level

Could you Heighten a spell two levels but only have it take up a slot one level higher 'cause of Improved Metamagic?

No. Since the level modifier of Heighten Spell isn't a set number, I would have to agree with everyone else in that Improved Metamagic has no effect.

Of course, I would still recommend taking that feat since it drops Empower Spell down to a +1 modifier. Imagine a Horrid Wilting spell that's been Empowered seven times...

That's 109d8 points of damage, an average of 436. Ouch.
