It looks really campy. Is that an aspect of the trailer or is that the intended mood of the comic?

Hmm...the film will be more campy than the comic, I imagine. One aspect of the comic's greatness is its ability to take many disparate elements (demons, paranormal bureau, Nazis, Lovecraftian creatures, gothic horror) and blend them into a seamless whole. A lot of that has to do with Mignola's artwork.

But the comic is campy too...Hellboy is always quick to point out when the depredations of a Kriegaffe (war-ape) are "total crap," and has a tendency to shout "BOOM!" when he hits something. There's no sound effect in the panel, just Hellboy yelling "BOOM!"

But really...the comic is greater than the sum of its parts. I wholly and completely recommend it.

Hollywood buzz seems to be around this film lately. It's stock price is rapidly rising on HSX.com as well.

I'm looking forward to it. I've only read one Hellboy TPB, but I liked it a lot.

Gonna have to chime in with the "I don't know the character, but I'll be first in line for the movie crowd." I'd heard of Hellboy, but I knew nothing about him. And, at the risk of getting lynched, I've always hated Mignola's artwork. But I so want to see this movie.

And yeah, if you've only seen the Real(ly bad) Player version, you owe it to yourself to download the Quicktime version.
