Help another - fixes?

If you use help another in challenges or in combat, shouldn´t it scale with level?

My ad hoc fix would be an attack/skillcheck vs. 10+1/2 level (of skill challenge/enemy). This woul be more in line with the general mechanics than a fixed vs. AC 10.

The simplest method of scaling is to link it to the skill DC. Something like target DC minus 10, to a minimum of 10. So, to Aid Another at a DC 30 skill check, you must roll 20 or higher.

Target DC minus 15 might be better, but I wouldn't go lower than that.

Why does it need fixing?

If a dc is 30, a level 10 character, trained in the skill for the dc has a minimum of +10, lets say his ability is +5, he has an +15 for the check..

With aid of 4 others to help him, he needs to roll 7 or higher?

The question you're asking is if the DC of making an Aid Another check shouldn't be based on the opposition, right?

I would say "yes, of course". It's the same as for using an "Acrobatic Stunt" (an aspect of the Acrobatics Skill) to "somersault over an opponent" - the DC shouldn't be static, and it shouldn't be based on your level (sorry, any lovers of DMG page 42).

It should depend on the opponent.

Adding the opponent's half level to DC 15 (or DC 10, if you're generous and really want to encourage people aiding each other), just like you suggest, is fine.

(But if you're asking if the Aid Another bonus should increase with level, then the answer is no, it shouldn't - a +2 bonus is equally useful at 30th level as it is at 1st.)
