Help build an Enchanter Specialist!

I have a player coming into my FR game with a Aristocrat 1 (rogue varient)/Enchanter Specialist Wizard 3 (from UA). He has taken the following options from that varient:

SRD said:
Cohort

Upon reaching 6th level, an enchanter using this variant gains the service of a loyal cohort of the player's choice (with the game master's approval). The cohort is a 4th-level character when first gained; after that point, follow the normal rules described in the Leadership feat to determine the cohort's level, but treat the enchanter's level as being two lower than normal.

The enchanter doesn't gain any followers from this ability. If the enchanter selects the Leadership feat, he attracts followers as normal, the penalty to the enchanter's effective level is eliminated, and the enchanter automatically qualifies for the "special power" modifier to his Leadership score.

An enchanter using this variant permanently gives up the ability to obtain a familiar.

Social Proficiency (Ex)

Enchanters using this variant are as proficient at manipulating others through mundane means as they are at influencing their minds magically. Add the following skills to the character's list of wizard class skills: Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Intimidate, and Sense Motive. The enchanter also gains a +2 competence bonus on checks involving one of these skills (player's choice) every five levels (5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th). This bonus can only be applied once to each skill.

An enchanter using this variant does not gain bonus feats for advancing as a wizard.
His character is an elven aristocrat/diplomat fellow from the Elven Court in FR. He wants to play a sly manipulator, and is usure of what feats he should take, and what PrCs to be looking towards in the future. I don't play arcanists that much, so I really don't know what to point him towards; Skill Focus: Conc is an obvious selection, but I'm sure there are more.

Any advice?

Does this player have access to the PHBII? THe beguiler sounds like it would be perfect for this character concept.

Assuming he sticks with enchanter, I'd skip Skill focus conc. and take either Negotiator or Persuasive and maybe silent spell. As far as PrCl a dip into Mindbender would fit his concept.

Older thread: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=183584

Basically:

Feats:
Still Spell, Silent Spell and Eschew Materials, the Spell Focus feats, the Spell Penetration feats and Heighten Spell are possible Core chocies.
Chain Spell (CArc) could be worth it.
Unsettling Enchantment (CMag) and Touch of Distraction (CMag) aren't that good, but add some flavor.
Fey Power (CMag) adds +1 to CL and DC on enchantment spells

It's not a feat, but the Immediate Magic alternate wizard class feature from PHBII has a very nice ability for enchanters. (Daze low HD attacker as immediate action.)

Prestige classes:
The Mindbender (CArc) gets you 100' telepathy. (More than one level isn't really worth it.)
The Master Specialist (CMag) gets you Greater Spell Focus and some nice abilities. The 4th level "no save on charm spells even if under attack" looks especially useful.

Spells:
The spells Friendly Face (lv1, RoD), Mask of the Ideal (lv3, CMag) and Voice of the Dragon (lv4, SC) give bonuses on social skills.

Items:
He'll want a Chocker of Eloquence (CAdv) as soon as he can afford it.

The four easy steps to make a great specialist enchanter.

1. Get your hands on PH2

2. Flip on to the Beguiler Class (page 6) and start reading (to page 8)

3. Roll (or Point Buy your stats), remember to put your best stats in Int and Cha

4. Pick the Spell Focus (Enchantment) and Greater Spell Focus (Enchantment) Feats

5. (In your case) Ask politely to retcon your character from a (less than optimal) Aristocrat/Wizard the much cooler Beguiler (for better skills, more skillpoints, all the relevant spells, spontaneous casting of a BIG list of spells and fitting Class Abilities) :)
