Hopefully you're a better DM than the one I had when we started out... Little tip. Going up 5 levels in a single adventure is NOT FUN. Nor is it fun to have a sheild guardian watching your tail the whole time. Nor is it fun to gain immortality on the 2nd game.

Gwolf - Go to www.wizards.com to the D&D section. There is a feature called Map of the week. Check the archives section for a lot more maps. These are a good start to creating a lot of adventures.

There are also a lot of free adventures on the site as well. You'll need Adobe Acrobat on your PC to print them out. These and the maps of the week should give you a good start.

Aslo as other posters have pointed out read the sections of the DMG carefully. Good luck! I started when I was 12 as well!

Thankyou clockworkjoe for making my day :D

Tips for a new DM:
1)read the DMG and monster abilities carefulyl.
2)start the PCs at level 1
3)Dont try anything to fancy plot wise to start with
4)dont worry about maps to much to start with, try and run a module first.
5)have fun
6)always have an old mage NPC in a magic shop who smiles (and tell yuor PC's to remember rule 1) (read Discworld novels)
7)always have a crazy gnome NPC (recomendations bartender
8)alwasy expect the PCs to do the crazyest things imaginable and either pull it off incredibly well or fall flat on there face, breking there noses.
9)try not to pause the flow of the game, if you cant find the rule/item stats/etc within 30-40 seconds, drop it and move on.
10)for more general info on world building and campaign setting read the excelent DungeonCraft articles from Dragon Mag (there online here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dragon/dungeoncraft )

Go Gwolf! It is great seeing younger people start playing D&D these days. I have been desperately afraid that they would all be lost to computer games.

I'll offer one piece of advice that I haven't seen so far: Read the Story Hours. There is a lot of great material in there about building good plot arcs. Steal from them if you want to.

If I'd had access to Story Hours like the ones on this board when I was your age, I'd have become a good DM long before I did.

I'd like to think that I have a pretty good Story Hour going, but if you can only read a few, ignore mine and read Sagiro's, Pirate Cat's, Wulf Ratbane's, Dr. Midnight's and Old One's. Your time will not be wasted and you will get a great education about how good a game this can be when done perfectly.

Cheat at mapping.
Take the layout of your school, and put that on graph paper.
Use the local toursit map with most of the building remove for the map of the area.
Use the office building your parent work as the dungeon.
Don't worry about plots for the first 5 or 6 adventurers. Just tell every these are scratch characters which may not be reused once you comfortable in a campaign seting.
The Kingdoms of Kalamar appears to be a good setting if you want to spend money.

I don't have my players map because it slows down the game. However I have drop teleport rooms.
And give the room number and parts of maps as they finish an level. Or I photocopy the map from the adventure and blot out what I don't want them to know.

If you are really into DMing your group, you might think about getting a battle mat if you can swing it. They are about 30 bucks. Its kind of hard to run 3e combat without them.
lets us know how it goes.

Something nice

Hello Gwolf...

Started roleplaying by bashing friends at the age of 6 with wooden sticks ... Ah those were the times...

Check www.necromancergames.com

There's a free adventure at the free stuff section called Wizards Amulet. It's a prequel to Crucible of Freya, something they sell and there's a supplement there too for later use... enough material for a campaign from lvl1 to lvl15 for 10$ !!!

I love the pregenerated chars there, though it's not necessary to use them. But the whole material there is great and on the necromancer boards are many stories and hints how you can use different NPCs and what happened in other groups.

Enjoy your gaming
