Success!
I forgot to take pictures of the beholder, but he looks a lot better (though it took me two tries). I also had a really bent up Nightshade that I dipped in the boiled water and pulled out to watch it revert to its original intended pitch and pose all on its own.
I did remember to take before and after for the giant's arm, though.
