So, I have this vague idea for a cool adventure, but I want some help fleshing it out a bit. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.
The adventure is intended for low to mid level characters in Dragonstar, but it would fit in any D&D setting with minor modifications.
The basic idea is that the PC's get hired for a very different sort of mission. A group, planet, city, tribe, whatever of aliens/necromancers/strange humans/take your pick has some strange burial customs. They put their royal dead on space ships and let them roam through space in unknown locations. This is to thwart grave robbers.
The plot starts with either one of these ships crashing on a sparsely populated outland world, or pirate have just figured out it's location, or it's engines failed and it's heading for a crash. In any case, the creatures of interest are unable to send their ships because they are all involved in a war, or there's no time and the ceature who finally figured out the problem has sent a message to his homeworld, but he has to hire the adventures to fix the problem in the short term until his people can come and deal with it since it's of utmost urgency. Something along these lines.
So, here's the nice twist. The ships is loaded with treasure, and everything is cursed, and the royals and their servants are all undead. However, the PC's can not "slay" these undead since it would be sacrilege to these creatures. They are just to fix their ship, or return their treasure, and put the undead "safely" back in their tombs and coffins. Injuring or possibly killing some minor servant undead would be acceptable in emergencies, but any sort of damage to a royal body is completely out of the question. And of course they can't take any of the treasure.
I just thought the twist of the PC's trying to deal with undead without hurting them would be a really interesting and fun twist.
As you can see the idea is still a bit vague, but I think it has real potential, so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
