[HELP/GAME] New Campaign Idea

I've had an idea I've been kicking around for some time, but I'm not sure where to go with it. I'm wondering what some of the rest of you might think.

Somewhere, deep beneath the surface of Toril(or Skarn), four metal locks sit arranged in a chamber. The blocks are covered in various glyphs and strange writings.

Suddenly, the top of each block shifts, and a green mist emerges from the seem. After a moment, the top lifts complely off, only to reveal it's contents. Within each of the encasements, lies a sleeping human (or dwarf or whatever). Suddenly, as one, their eyes flicker open.

These are the PCs. Hidden away in suspended animation for time untold, they have awakened. They have no memory of the time before their slumber, but tnow they go forth to meet the world.

Who are they? Why have they awakened?

I figure this will make for a fun little game. Using this introduction, what can you guys come up with?

EDIT - I'm considering using this as a jumping off point for a Scarred Lands game.

Any basic race and they all start as 1st level commoners. :D

EDIT - However, if you have any cool ideas that requires other race/class combination, please post them. I'm curious..

make them discover their strengths and weaknesses.
Give them all 1 level in fighter.
and that will throw off their idea of the character.

Obviously people will start playing around with things like try to cast spells, see who can climb walls faster than the others or better than the others.

from there project forward.

Obviously they have forgotten completely who they are, but they might still have their abilities. so if they were a level 20 fighter, they are actually holding back in their fighting, not because they know they are, but because they don't know what their max capacity is.

the xp is just how they slowly remember things.
Make some piece of history be familiar to them and as they investigate they start to get affinities to historical people.

That is kinda what I was thinking.

I was also thinking:

They all start of as 1st level commoners.

The complex they are in has a item in it benificial to each of the classes:

Fighter - Masterwork Sword
Wizard - Spell Book
Rogue - Masterwork Thieves' Picks
etc.

Depending on the item they use, this determines their initial class.

In theory....

here's an idea

The palyers are actually the 4 horsemen, long ago defeated and contained for, supposedly all time.

some event has caused their release, but as they know nothing of who they were they do not remember their prevoius plans for total destruction.

that will give the pc's a great rp situation.

they start adventuring thrying to find out who they are only to discover after a long campaign that they were a force for destruction.

this of course hinges on them playing mostly good characters in the game.

otherwise it would be too powerful

You could go look up some prophecies (lots o'nostrodamus on the net) and place them in a book that is one of the chambers. Make sure the players find them but their is no hint in their minds or the books as to weather they are supposted to fulfill or prevent the cryptic predictions (that might have already occured).

The book might hint that this is how the Four Dooms of Sevrves (or another backwords/forwards word like bob) are/were to be defeated or resurected. Now the players have to figure out who their master is and if they are freing a great evil.

You could place several other boxes in the area that are already opened - watch the players freak on that one. They will always be looking for the others. You could make a version of the expression: 3 sinners and 3 saints struggled in embrace, shouded in dust..... Then they may not know what has escaped but they know it is bad, unless the group is evil.
