Help. I lost the defence roll variant!

Hi

A while back I read a great variant rule that called for PCs to roll a "defence roll" instead of the DM rolling attack rolls for NPCs. The DC for the roll is set by the BAB and combat bonuses of the attacker.

Unfortunately I can't remember where I saw the rule or how to calculate the DC.

Please help! I would like to use it when I take over our game in a couple of weeks time...

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply! That is not the defence I was looking for... ;)

The system I am after involves having a DC for each opponent, while the PCs roll a "defence" against this DC. The problem is that I have forgotten how to calculate the DC and the defence roll. It should theoretically be possible to figure out how to do this fairly, but I am hoping someone has a quick link that will save me the trouble!

Cheers

A couple people on the board, and even somone at Wizards I believe, have discovered that the magic formula isn't 10+AC for the DC, but 12+AC.

It's from Unearthed Arcana.

The defense roll is 1d20 + AC modifiers for PCs, versus a DC of 12 + the NPC's attack bonuses.

Saving throws work the same way: 1d20 + save modifiers (spell level + caster stat mod, typically) versus 12 + the critter's fort, reflex, or will bonus.
