HELP im a dwarven sorcerer...what should i do

corcio

First Post
OK OK first and foremost the thing i hear constantly is this....SORCERERS SUCK....but i still like the spontaneous casting....probably the most appealing thing they got going for them....

ANYWAYS this is the story
we did random draws for race and class.

i got dwarf and sorc

im a gold dwarf so i dont get -2 to cha....its -2 to dex instead.

ANYWAYS i also have some nice stats in my cha so im actually a 20 in that
i started at lvl 3 and im about to hit lvl 4
we are doing UNDERMOUNTAIN.

my question is this
whats a good prc to go for sorc....i am allowed by special rule to use one martial weapon and light armor without penalty.....
we have a warmage a cleric a barb a ranger a rogue and ibelieve another warmage in the party.....
WHAT should i do
i dont think i need another blaster so i figured i would go for utility sorc..just so im useful and able to help the party alot. ....

any ideas

Utility and/or party buffs makes sense, considering, that the cleric will have all hands full with healing the party and there are two warmages to blast everything to pieces.

Or you could head for a martially oriented PrC (i.e. Eldritch Knight), if multiclassing with another base class is allowed (since it's required for that PrC).

You can also take spells with offensive nature, like Grease, Ray of Enfeeblement, Glitterdust, Slow, Suggestion for example. It's different to what the warmages do, but still quite helpful.

I concur with Thanee's appraisal. I would like to add that the Draconic Breath feat (requires Draconic Heritage) is great with a Utility Sorc.

As to a PrC, any you can get into that gives full Spellcasting. :p

Thanee always has good advice for playing a Sorcerer. Personally I don't see any reason you should ever need a PrC. Don't listen to those people who tell you the class is weak. It isn't.

However, if you want a PrC you might look over the list at WotC's Prestige Class index. Of which you might think about the Bonded Summoner from the miniatures handbook. It doesn't have full spell casting progression, but you do get an Elemental Companion that can be very useful and as a Dwarf having an Earth Elemental following you around would be cool. You also get some good energy resistance and immunities as you progress. I really think it could add some melee potential to your group and be cool flavor wise.

Also, remember your strategy. Get to where you can cast invisibility all day long on the rogue and see him dish out the SAs. The elemental can help with flanking on that count as well and is much more durable than a familiar.

Not to self pimp, but consider the Earth Bloodline from Dragon Compendium for your PC as well.

You're underground, you're a dwarf, you have no charisma negations, you can wear light armor with no spell failure application and you have free access to a martial weapon eh?

Sir - you ain't got much to complain about. Especially since you'll be at 4th level soon when you get access to 2nd level spells.

Thanee gave good advice spell wise ... no use trying to give "better"! The only addendum I would toss in would be choosing some spells that would help augment the party's combat and defensive "style" as it arises and forms throughout your play.

Yes - the dwarven war axe is a lovely weapon!

As for prestige classes ... I like to aim towards the ones that are in harmony with the character's personality. Develop your character. Heck, for all I know he may turn into the perfect example for a dual classed sorc/clrc who becomes a mystic theurge or ... anything ... there are all sorts of possibilities.
