Help making a PrC

I have 'writers' block. I'm trying to construct a PrC for barbarians that can change when they rage into animals or hybrids. I've tried to stat them out and got down the abilities but I can't write them out. What loks good in the tables turns out wrongly in the descriptions! It just doesn't make sense, can anyone help me!

Would it help if I posted what I have so far? I'm not satisfied with what I have, though, but if it helps.

Yes, that would help.

In general:
Requirements: BAB +6, rage class feature...

BAB 3/4, good saves fort.

1 Wild Empathy (as the druid class feature).
2 Rage +1/day
3 Lesser raging shape
4 Natural Armor +1 (permanently in effect)
5 Rage +2/day
6 Raging shape
7 Greater Rage (as barbarian)
8 Natural Armor +2
9 Hybrid shape
10 Rage +3/day, controlled shape.

Lesser Raging Shape: When raging, if he so chooses, the barbarian grows claws and a bite, a d6 each, +3 natural armor, faster movement, he's not quite animal shaped, but kind of bestial. Give him a claw/claw/bite natural attack routine.

Raging Shape: Can be an animal, as wild shape, of his size or smaller, for the duration of rage.

Hybrid shape: A war form, like from werewolf:the apocalypse, I suppose. Larger than his normal form by one category, you've got the bonuses from greater rage already, mechanically I would work with the player to advance a couple of animals to large size and just describe them as hybrid werewolf/bear/panther whatever looking forms. He could use claws or weapons, whatever he liked.

Controlled shaping: The barbarian can burn 1 rage use to wild shape, without having to be enraged; useful for non-combat stuff. Duration is hours=his new Con bonus.

This is an abridged(ish) version:

Fera

Description

Hit Dice-D12/level

[Requirements
--Skill ranks: Survival 4 ranks
--Feats: Endurance
--Special: Rage twice a day
--BAB: +5 BAB

The Fera

Level..BAB..F/R/W.....Special
..1....+1...+2/+0/+2..... Rage +1/day, Animal nature (Gain some animal features when raging)
..2....+2...+3/+0/+3..... Respect (Respect of nature, ranks in survival, resistances)
..3....+3...+3/+1/+3..... Beast shapes (Wild shape? I'm not sure)
..4....+4...+4/+1/+4..... Animal senses(gains better senses), Animal nature
..5....+5...+4/+1/+4..... Rage +1/day
..6....+6...+5/+2/+5..... Furious Rage (Bonus to rage stats)
..7....+7...+5/+2/+5..... Wild Form(The hybrid form), Animal nature
..8....+8...+6/+2/+6.....
..9....+9...+6/+3/+6..... Rage +1/day
.10...+10...+7/+3/+7.... Feral form(Full hybrid form?), Animal nature

Part of the problems is that I though I could remember what the abilities did. Also I can either set down what the player gets (Pro far simpler, con a bit straight jackety), or list a series of things that they can choose from (Pro more choice, con can be vague and more to do).

I'm also torn between, revolving around the rage ability (like yours, and my 3.0 version was) or a raging pen knife?
Class Skills
The Fera's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb(Str), Intimidate(Cha), Jump(Str), Listen(Wis), Ride(Dex), Spot(Wis), Swim(Str), and Survival(Wis).

Skill Points at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier

Class Features
The following are all class features of the Fera prestige class.

Weapon and Armour Proficiency
The Fera gains no new weapon or armour proficiencies.

Have you looked at the Shifter race from Eberron for idea? Their natural "shifting" ability is very similar to a form of Rage. They do not actually change shape, but gain 'animalistic' traits during the 'Shift'. Another source for ideas on this would be the "Bear Warrior" PrC (Oriental Adventures and Complete Warrior versions).

I haven't got any of the ebberon book nor Complete warrior or Oriental adventures as I am (and have been for a long time) indefinately groupless.

Tell me, though, is it merely themantic? Or has it got heavy mechanics? Does each shifter have thier own 'animal'/feature, or are they all the 'same'?

I don't know about Eberron, but the Bear Warrior is all about the bears (naturally). :) However, it would be easy to substitute a comparable animal at each level if you wanted to have, say, a "cat warrior." Instead of turning into a black, brown, and polar bear at different levels he could turn into, say, a Leopard, Lion and Dire Lion (or whatever).
