Help me brainstorm for Halloween

Dye your catsuit blue and paint a "4" on it and go out as Johnny Storm.

It would be better to go as Reed Richards. If he goes as Johnny Storm at some time he would have to set himself on fire. ;)

Flame on.

Hey, I'm a redneck Southerner, and you ain't my sister. :-)

* * *

I've decided on a costume. After discussing it thoroughly with my wife, I've agreed that I can't really do anything scary this year. My oldest son is 4.5 years old. He is too old to be kept in the dark about what I'm doing (in years past, my wife distracted him in another part of the house while I got ready and left the house). And he's still too young to understand the scary stuff (explain a zombie or vampire or killer clown to a 4 year old).

My son is going as Spider-Man, his favorite superhero.

So, I'm going as...

CAPTAIN AMERICA

I've got plenty of images to reference, and an action figure that I bought for my son (really got it for me :-).

I don't do the "off the rack" costumes, because they are cheap, flimsy, and just stupid looking. So I've got to build this myself. My biggest hurdles are the shield and mask.

I've got to decide whether to do "classic" or "modern". The classic CA has red boots and red gloves. The modern CA has brown combat boots and brown gloves. I think modern stuff would be easier to find.

I've got to get some fake (over the top big) muscles too. That shirt -- paint or sew? (Yes, I know CA wears an armor shirt -- classic = chainmail, modern = scale mail.)

Any pointers or ideas or suggestions or warnings or advice, etc.?

I haven't touched any new comics for a long time. What's the latest costume revision of CA?
