Help me decide, please.

Treebore

First Post
The Deluxe Galleon, Dragonfire Laser Crafts
Modern Floorplans: All Saints Church, Fabled Environments
E-Z Dungeons, Fat Dragon Games
Conflict Chips, Conflict Chips
Game Mastery: Flip-mat Tavern, Paizo Publishing

Now I saw the galleon (don't think it was the deluxe, though) at last years GenCon, and I agree it is pretty darn cool, but pricey.

I have not seen Modern Floorplans, so no comment there. Fill me in please.

E-Z Dungeons. I use these extensively and am a big fan.

Conflict chips. Saw them. Thought "meh".

Game Mastery is pretty cool to.

So far my thinking is E-Z Dungeons because there is a lot to it in comparison to the others, even Modern Floor Plans. They do a good job and I like their newer stuff that allows you to choose different layers options, etc...

Plus this product alone gives me tons of "tiles" to print out and use in many variations/combinations.

The only other one I am even considering voting for is the Gamemastery flip-mat. It is very nice, excellent production values, but very limited useage in comparison to the EZ Dungeons.

So can anyone give me "counterpoints" that could sway me to vote for one of the others?

Like should I vote for the Galleon simply because of the cool factor? I have to admit the production value was pretty darn good as well.

Is there more to the Combat Chips than I give it credit for?

Modern Floorplans I haven't even seen, so could someone at least give me a link to a write up and pictures? Or tell me why you think it deserves to win? Both?

Or am I right to vote EZ Dungeons because it gives me the best bang for my money?

Thanks for your input.

I was wondering where you had been Treebore. I hadn't seen you around here for a bit.

As for my thoughts, I only own the Flip Mat mat so take my comments with a grain of salt. To me the Flip Mat changed battlemats the way Tac-Tiles did. Flip Mats are a lot cheaper than most conventional battlemats. They can be used with wet or dry erase pens and they can be folded up to a very portable size.

The fact that they are so cheap has also allowed for a lot of customisation. You can get wilderness mats, urban mats, etc., All in all a great product.

That's my 2 cents.

I use a plain, unmarked flip mat. It's great, and I don't have a big rolled up mat stuffed through my backpack.

I can say that Dragonfire has actually made some improvements to the Galleon since it originally debuted, though I won't try to influence you on that subject more than that. :)

I have a friend who plays a druid who swears by the chips for his animals. My problem is that it doesn't help me to have the stats on the chip, because when it's on the map, I can't read it. I tend to have an actually mini for something I use a lot, and something less specific for something I'm summoning (on the other hand, I don't summon anything often...)

Completely unfamiliar with the other two products, so no comments on them.

Modern Floorplans rock. They are created using autocad and the designers actually research real buildings. They make sure to place items such as bathrooms etc in the buildings. I love the maps and own every one of them.

Yeah, I finally found their website. Their stuff does look awesome.

So the biggest reasons I see to vote for EZ Dungeons over the others is:

For more versatile to meet my needs.

Well done, even if not as good as the autocad of Modern Floorplans

Excellent price point, especially for what I get.

Print out as much as I need without paying anything more other than printing costs.

So strengths/problems I see with the other products.

They all have great production value.

They are all very good for what they give me.

Biggest draw backs are that they are all (except for the chips/coins) a "one trick pony".

Meaning they all give only one thing, or one general theme is covered.

So my biggest reasons for liking EZ Dungeons the most are:

Price

Versatility and reusability at a low cost. As many multiples as I want to print out, in as many variations as I want to make.

Two very compelling reasons for me, especially since the production value of the "E-Z's" is comparable to everyone else.

For me, at this point, its turning into a very "landslide" type of vote.

Anyone have any counter points to my reasoning here? Other than the ones already listed.

I think the best product is the Wooden galleon, overall.

I agree that it is pricey - but as I conceive it, that's not what's being asked.

If someone was to offer you one of those products for free - which would you put top of the list? Which one would you most want to have?

Galleon. Hands down. A little plain perhaps, but eminently serviceable and it will see use for years and years.

If stuff were being given away for free, I agree. For my money though I am thinking useful, useful, useful. So far I think the EZ Dungeons win that hands down, because it can be used for a variety of encounter areas, including inns/taverns, etc...

I'll have to see if one of the products has ships in it. I don't remember any of them having one.

If my memory serves correctly I now have a product suggestion for FatDragon. Do ships!

Odds are though, as bad as my memory can be, they have done ships and I just don't remember.

I would go with E-Z Dungeons, Fat Dragon Games. I have alot of their stuff and it is very cool. I know the they will be at Gen Con and have read about the upcoming stuff they have on the Gen Con forums. I for one would go with Fat Dragon.

They are the ones I did rank at number 1. Best value for the money is what clinched the number one spot for me.

Still, all the products are very good. I can see why judges are glad they don't have to make the final decisions. Its probably tough enough just to get it down to a handful.

I think this category alone shows why all the nominated products should be given a look. They are all great/excellent, its just a question of which one gives you what your looking for.

Like the chips. They are something I never see me using, but I know there are others out there who would, and love the product.

One good thing for the people in this category, a couple of them are going to get sales to me over the next few months because the ENnies made me take a closer look at their stuff.

Unless I win the lottery I don't see me buying that ship though, as cool as it is. Its the same reason I don't buy Dwarven Forge. Awesome stuff, I just can't justify the price. With Fat Dragon Games, Oone, SkeletonKey, etc... I can.
