Help me depose a King

Okay, I've got a little plan of my own, but I think it's cheesy; I want to hear some ideas from the rest of you.

What I want is to get rid of a King, publically and legitimately. I have to do so in a way that it also allows me a way to assasinate the ruling "High Priest" (the ruling man of the cloth) so that the next in line in the church hierarchy can step up and take control of both the church and the crown.

I want to use a succubus or a vampire (or maybe a vampire succubus?).

I also want you to consider the effect of a few small, high-level groups, of both evil and good alignment, who will try to disrupt the coup.

This is going to be background information (unless the PCs can somehow get in on it) in the game, so I want to know what happens!

Take a leaf out of Henry 8th's book.

Have him seduced by your succubus, and want to divorce his wife. But the local church doesn't allow divorces.

The succubus persuades your King to either start a whole new church or just behead the clergyman for some trumped up charge or another.

Then the King can get a new high priest who will allow the divorce and then officiate over the wedding.

At this point, I'd give you a choice - either have the church and the late Queen's family start a revolution against the King, or have the King found out to be a vampire himself when he fails to enter the church. If you want to be really rotten, have his execution slated for midday and he actually turns up for it and is messily beheaded. He was refusing to get married in the church to cover for his vampiric fiance.

Interesting idea. I picture the King as a cruel and evil man (like Ivan the Terrible), so this wouldn't be out of character for him. It would be interesting if the succubus bears an alu-demon (or a cambion, if she is able) for him...

The Church is evil through and through, so nobody really has to worry about entering or not entering it... I could drop a Silent, Stilled Contagion spell as the King bends down to kiss the hand of the (evil) priest who is presiding over the wedding. Then, as his skin suddenly breaks out in boils, the evil priest cries "Demon! Demon!" as loud as he can.

If there is a (bastard) child still living, the priest can act as regent until the child has reached a suitable age. That has legal precedence, as well. Evil. There is another prince who gave up his claim to the throne, so he might start a civil war... which is a-okay as far as the evil guys see it.

Cool... any other ideas?

you could use the testimony of a long lived vampire to question the lineage of the king....and have the succubus seduce the supposedly celibate preist?
