Help me develop this character concept (sort of a modern goth in a fantasy setting)

I have nothing to do, which rarely happens. But when it does, I usually create characters... And here we are. I'd appreciate ideas about this character, how to build it technically as well as how to successfully roleplay him. I got lots of inspiration from the game GTA Vice City, one of the radio stations feature a debate show with a goth character. You can view it here. (Scroll down to 2C: PERCEPTION AND POSITIVE THINKING and read the parts with Smith). Here's what I got this far:

The character ralates to death, darkness and fiends as Guybrush Threepwood relates to pirates - he is a wannebe villain, probably the D&D equivalent of a modern goth or devil worshiper (the unconfident teenager variant). He is the kind of character who sacrifices blood and dead animals to Asmodeus, try to summon demons, speaks with the undead, curse his enemies etc, without really understanding the consequences of his actions. He is apathic and depressed (or, at least he tries to be) yet motivated enough to continue with his "evil" actions.

He is deffenitely not a good character, but he isn't your typical evil character either - sacrilegious perhaps, but not the kind of guy who hurts innocent to gain power. I guess you can call him an antihero, who eventually will use his evil powers for a good cause, rather than the destruction of everything good in this world. Understand what I mean? I would probably give him the alignment Chaotic Neutral, but I'm not completely sure. He does things considered evil by most, without doing anything really evil. He is a good guy if you get to know him, and can probably be useful in a party too if you, say, fight fiends with fiends. (;))

Regarding the technical aspect, I'm unsure. Wizard perhaps (Conjurer? Necromancer?). Perhaps Cleric, but my intuition tells me this guy has a low Wisdom score.

Do you have any ideas? I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Edit: Wow, I can't spell.

Sounds like a really cool character concept! From what you're saying I gather you see him as a summoner of fiends. Conjuror is of course the obvious choice, but he doesn't really sound like the scholary type; probably wouldn't have the patience or disciplin to become a wizard. Sorceror sounds more likely.

The imagery I'm getting is of a fuy who wouldn't like to spend his days in a library. He might sneak in during the night, though, to study forbidden tomes of fiendish lore; looking for more fiends to summon. Perhaps you could throw in a rogue level or two, maybe go for Arcane Trickster?

Personally, I'd go for a sorcerer with plenty of summoning spells. Maybe he even traded his soul to an arch-fiend to get his sorcerous powers? Remember the sorceror can now "trade in" lower level spells as he advances, so you don't have to be stuck with Summon Monster I as one of your precious few known spells when you're level 18.

Edit/afterthought: CN sounds about right, maybe just N. For feats, Augment Summoning is an obvious choice; and later get Improved Familiar to get an imp or quasit familiar.

Hi Psionicist,

Interesting concept.

I think a Wizard/Alienist combination would be perfect for what you have outlined. Specialising in necromancy or conjuration for your wizard levels would also be interesting - dropping illusion and possibly evocation.

Alignment sounds like it would fit Neutral Evil tending towards neutrality.
