I am having problems with a consistent place to play games. I dont like to play at retail stores because of the traffic and interruptions. Using someones house is great for awhile, but eventually it leads to problems in scheduling or personal issues. Does anyone have a good solution that has worked for them? We used to play games at a coffee shop, and it was free. Then they wanted to charge money for the space we took up. So we went back to playing at a friends house. Should we just suck it up and pay their small fee for a consistent place? It is quiet and rarely has traffic at the hours we play. Plus coffee!!! How many people here would pay to have a good place to play?? Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!

We use someone's house. I played a few weeks in a gaming store a few years back, but that was just odd. I perfer the quiet of playing in in a private residence. However, with the three kids over at the place we play quiet is a pipedream. But you get used to it.

I would never pay for a place to pay. There are too many great places to play for free. I've gamed in lounges at Colleges (even if I or anyone in the group was not a student). I've gamed in rooms at libraries. THere are plenty of places to play, one just has to look around and investigate.

What's wrong with people's abode's to play?

Another option: Libraries have community rooms which **may** be free. I have to go to one that's not in the neighborhood, but at least it has a neat anime collection. :D

Create a club. We have one in town, with 150 members (among them 100 are only live-action players, however. ) Members buy their food from the club during the session (soda, ice-cream, sandwiches...) and this money allow the club to rent its own premise. Lots of work, but rewarding, since we can play (and find players) nearly everyday.

Both the game I DM an the game I play in are at our house. I'm happy not to have to schlep my stuff somewhere when I'm DMing, but I suppose I wish the other game could be at someone else's house. Still, it forces us to keep our place clean.

I guess the reason our house is the default location is that we have a reasonably large dining room table.

I play at a friends house every Saterday, and Dm at the local comic book shop every other friday, both locations work reasonably well. I also used to play Magic all night at a Dunkin'Donuts near my house, that worked out great, except for the guy in the back room singing along with the radio, loadly.

Well if you really liked playing at the Coffee shop, and the fee doesn't amount to much when split between the players and DM (like the price of a Can of Coke per person), then I'd say stick with the coffee shop. Actually, paying for the time would be advantagious to you, as well, because this way, when you pay for the time and get a reciept, the coffee shop can never complain again. The worst they'd do is either A. up the price, or B. cancel your gaming sessions.

It reminds me a thread form an ancient poster about paying the DM to DMing...

I'd say search a free place. I've always gamed at somebody's home.

discorune, first, welcome to the boards, second, if you told us where you were we might be more helpful, we are a rather large and widespread community. :)

at someone's house is where we go. If your in college find an open conference room? Find somewhere neutral and quiet where food can be brought in eaten and a restroom nearby.
