Help me find a some good car insurance.

Well,

We just bought a brand new 2005 Toyota Corolla, getting rid of the 1992 Ford Lemon, I mean Taurus I used to have.

Paid the sales tax. (Yikes!)

Now we need to get Car Insurance (full coverage) for our new car. (Plus my Wife's 94 Geo Prism). Our current Car Insurance is going to charge us over $2,000 a year for the 2 cars. (We had this company due to cheap liability as the combined value of our cars was 400 dollars, I doubt they are the best for full coverage).

We are both good drivers, have short cummutes & never had an accident.

We also just bought a house.

We are trying to look up on our own the best deal for the money, but the Industry doesn't want that. Trying to get a straight answer out of anybody is impossible.

So, I figure I'd ask here:

What do you do for Car/Home Insurance?

We have a 2005 Toyota Corolla CE (giggle), a 1994 Geo Prism, and a $90,000 dollar house in rural Missouri. No tickets, no accidents, no DUI's, perfectly clean record.

Any advice people can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I've had USAA for years and you can only get it if you're a military member or a family member of a current member, so I'm no good there. ;)

However, I've seen those ads where you can go to Progressive.com and get quotes from different companies. That might be worth a shot.

We have Geico car insurance and I really enjoy it. We don't have full coverage, but pay about $1200/year for our 2004 Ford Escape and 1993 Ford Taurus. (I had an accident last winter that jacked up our rates... yarg!)

Geico's customer service department is always very friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. Moreover, their website is very user-friendly and that's really important to me because I prefer to pay as many bills as possible online. :)

One thing: I will recommend highly AGAINST State Farm. I've heard nothing but horror stories from friends who have had SF insurance.

In the UK, it's common to ring around, or get online quotes from a bunch of companies. The best quote I got was via a recommendation from a Honda forum. Is there a US-based Toyota forum? Most car-forums seem to get as many posts asking about the best insurance as ENW gets posts about when 4E's coming out ;)

Cheers,
Liam

You enjoy car insurance? :) Not sure I have ever heard anyone say they enjoy car insurance.

Geico could be worth the call, they are always saying they will save you money.

As others have said, call around and get some quotes and see who can get you the best rate. Also, if you own your home you can look into seeing if you can get a discount for having your car and home owners isurance through the same place. Most places I believe will do this (provided they offer both types of insurance).

Okay - so maybe I don't enjoy the car insurance, but I enjoy the company that I get my insurance from. :)

I'd definately look to see about getting insurance for home and auto through the same company... I love having fewer bills.

I've got Geico insurance, and have had it for about 7 years. I've been very happy with them. We also have our homeowners insurance with them, although the actual insurance is through Traveler's Insurance, but in partnership with Geico. I find their customer service to be very easy to deal with, very knowledgeable, and the few times I have had to get payments from them (when I was hit), they were very prompt.

Before I switched to Geico, I had Progressive for about 5 or 6 years, and they were also good. I was happy with them, and probably would have stayed with them, but when I moved to Virginia, Geico was quite a bit cheaper so I switched. Call around, see what the different companies offer you, and check on the Progressive website as someone mentioned above.

Also, as mentioned above by a few other people, if you have military in the family, you can get USAA, which my wife has her car insurance through, and she has been very happy with them. And avoide State Farm like the plague, when the guy who hit me a few years ago had SF, it was a nightmare getting my car fixed and paid for. They kept calling, cancelling the adjuster's appointment to see the car, telling me the multiple estimates I got were no good, and generally being a PIA for several weeks until I threatened to have my lawyer call them, then I got a check in 3 days.

I've been enjoying Geico car insurance for 7 years now. My rate is so low, I don't even know what it is. I pay like $65 every once in a while... or something.... ;)

I have short commutes, no accidents, or tickets.

It's worth giving them a call. A 15 minute call could save you 25%. Then you too could say "I've got good news..."
