the group divided in 2 : both was searching for a specific person.

group 1 found the person they w ere looking for, but if they return to the starting point of both groups (the castle), they will find that group 2 not arrived yet.

i was thinking in some randon monster attack on the way to the castle, and tha shoul lead to a sub-adventure, just to give more time to group 2.

all orcs have gone, as they receive a "call" from the One Eye (not Sauron! :p ).

maybe this just make that other monsters try to take orcs place, in some kind of disturbance in the nature (as we dont have orcs anymore...for now!)

so, any ideas in what to do to "hold" group 1 a little?

i will try again:
i have group 1 and group 2.

both groups are looking for something, and group 1 have found it.

BUT, group 2 didnt have the time to complete the search, so they still looking

group 1 is returnig to the start place -the castle.

BUT, i dont whant group 1 to just sit and wait, so i wanna give some challenge to them before the reach the safe castle again (the starting point).

meanwhile, all the orcs are gone, for reasons that no player know. so, maybe the lack of orcs could cause problems in the monster "balance", as some other race my try to "take the orcs place".

so....any ideas o f that kind of monster? (like, for instance, no beholder would like to take a orcs place :p )

What is the "something" they seek?

What is the party makeup (particularly levels, races, and classes) and which are in group one and which are in group two?

What is your world generally like (particularly the local environment) and where is the castle located?

These details would help tremendously. Otherwise, any advice is just shooting in the dark. I, for instance, would not know whether to suggest they find a dragon or a kobold.

What if this guest-star person they were all sent out to find, decides to disppear again? Maybe he is trying to play a prank on the PCs who found him, maybe he really doesn't like them at all and wants to get away from them, maybe he has his own agenda and doesn't want to be brought back to the castle, for his own political or personal reasons.

Either way, he slips away from the half of the party who found him, and then gets himself in trouble, trapped in a valley or ravine and actually does need to be rescued this time. Or if he is an evil guy that the PCs don't know about yet, maybe he calls in a tribe of goblins or ogres or something to harass the party and give them grief. Maybe as he's fleeing party 1, he runs smack into party 2, who might then try to claim credit for finding him... :D

Either way, make this guy an integral part of the "meanwhile" side-adventure, not just an add-on.

good idea, Randon..

the party 1 is all elf, in elf kingdon, tryig to find a noble elf of a enemy house.
fighter/mag, 2fighters, 1 fighter/cleric (they are really in the fighter thing, huh?)

level about 6/6 for the multiclasses and 9 for the others. all have magical weapons (not vorpal like, just +1 , or +1/+2 against giants).

so, they find this noble elf, and they are taking him to the castle.

The old standby would be to have them going through a hamlet on their way back to the castle and have the townsfolk ask for their help dealing with a problem. Unfortunately, that probably won't work here. Any monster that will give the PCs any trouble should be able to slaughter the whole town! Of coures, it could just be Goblins kidnapping someone and the noble telling them they have to get him/her back. (Noble NPCs do that, you know.) That would be more of Mystery than a Big Fight. Are any of the characters Rangers?
