As for the orc artificer, it is a sub-race unique to our campaign world - they're called Blue Orcs, or Tralgur, and live high in the mountains studying arcane energies and the nearby Storm Lands. They kind of look like this guy, a troll nethermancer from Earthdawn's Kratas book:
In some sense they're like the nerds of orc culture
. But it also relates to the origins of orcs - they were originally humans that didn't retreat to safe havens when a great magical apocalypse occured...from those energies they became various sub-races of orcs (Green, Grey, Black, Red, and Blue), each with very different characteristics. Grey are your standard nasty PC fodder; Green or more shamanic, akin to primitive peoples; Red are highly militarized and organized, with a slight Japanese flavor; and Black are rarer, larger, and just plain nasty. Blue orcs are the descendents of a monastery that got caught in the apocalypse...they are scholars, alchemists, wizards, inventors and, of course, artificers.
