Help me make a dynamic duo!

Hello all,

Thanks for taking time to read my plea. Four of us are getting together with our DM in two weeks to play a game. Two of us haven't played D&D and know almost nothing about Pathfinder, so I'm hoping you can help.

We'd like to build our characters to be sort of a dynamic duo, working together to be pretty amazing in and out of combat. Could you all possibly suggest some ideas? So far the party already has a bard, so neither of us will be playing that.

Here are the Character Generation details:

System: Pathfinder, Advanced Player's Guide is acceptable.

Ability Score Points: Epic Fantasy (25 points) or roll randomly (4d6
pick highest 3 dice).

Character Level: 5th, medium experience progression, start with
15,000k experience.

Character Wealth & Magic: 10,500 gp; no more than 4,000 gp in a
single item; crafting feats allowed if prerequisites are met

Campaign details:

- Knowledge Skills are huge
- Influence makes a difference
- Characters star with bonus feats based on Race (and are CL+1; character still start at 5th Level)
- Majority of adventure will not be traditional dungeon crawl

If you feel up to the task of going beyond core and opening up the advanced player's guide you could play a cavalier and a fighter.

The idea is that the cavalier is the excellent tactitian and the fighter the excellent soldier. A cavalier can share (only) 1 teamwork feat at level 1 with allies, which he gains as a bonus feat. Try to often flank (duh).

The cavalier should pick up order of the dragon and the swift aid feat (cheat :D).

As for the RP part, play something like brothers-in-arms who fought together until now.

Another idea if you are feeling up for it is a pair of monster hunting brothers

One person plays an Inquisitor, the other takes a Ranger. Both are monster hunting style classes

Who ever plays the inquisitor would be the knowledge guy, big bonus for this

Ranger gets the dirty jobs, killing the monsters and tasks like that

Elf works well for these but so would a half elf, human or half orc

Teamwork feats are, indeed, made for this sort of situation. I too will recommend a look at Cavalier, but I'll raise you an Inquisitor: this will get you access to healing spells, religion for the party since the Inquisitor is a type of priest, and more Teamwork feats. Cavalier and Inquisitor working together could do some pretty brutal things.

Of course, that would also be a very "tank" combination to go with; by "not traditional dungeon crawl" do you mean, mostly social interaction and very combat-light? If so, then the Cavalier + Inquisitor combo I suggested above won't work well- they're made for combat.
