Help me Make a "Naruto" type Character

Hi all,

As the Title says, help me make a a legal 3.5 character that is reminiscent of the type of "ninja" in Naruto (anime). For those who don't follow Naruto, the ninja in this universe have good combat ability, stealth, and can cast spell (with no preperation like a sorc).

Please only use Core materials (so just PHB and DMG).

I was toying around with a Ranger/Rogue (TWF with throwing axes + emphasis on stealth) for the combat ability & rogue-ish skills. However, it does not cover the spell like "jitsu's" that the characters usually use. Most seem to be illusions ("Kage-bun-no-jitsu" = mirror-image like) and evocations (burning hands ish).

Though I would want this character to be true (as much as possible) to the Naruto type ninja, I also want it Max/Min-ed

Any ideas? Builds+Level progression(with classes, feats, etc) would be greatly appreciated

Hmm, well I guess it depends on which Naruto character.

For example:

Naruto - maybe add a fiendish/half-fiend template, from the "9 Tails"

Sasuke - possibly a shadow template, due to his "shadow seal"

Rock Lee - totally "non-magical" so maybe a monk/fighter type

Plus, depending on which Hidden Village you come from, there might be differences as well, such as coming from Leaf or Mist (Fire and Water respectively)

In my opinion, a "typical" ninja from the Naruto world would probably be a
Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster. The "Nartuo-world" ninjas seem to be adept at stealth as well as "magic" (ninja techniques). The Arcane Trickster seems like a good match-up.

On another note, can't wait till more eps. come out.

Some possibilities:

Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Trickster. Possible with a monk level or two if you can get away with it, Improved Unarmed Strike if you can't.

Monk/Sorcerer.

Ranger.

Rogue/Assassin/Teflamar Shadowlord (from Unapproachable East)

There are a couple characters in the series that would have a unique template - Naruto and Gaara for example. I'd base 'em off of half-fiend and half-earth elemental respectivly, but with some tweaking - the whole template exercise would be really played by ear and require Dm approval, so I'd just skip it, honestly.

But yeah, for most of your unique jutsu type abilities, I'd go with sorcerer spellcasting using personally researched spells. Unique bloodline abilities I'd have as a 3-level PrC, similar to the Racial Paragon classes from UA with one the entry requirements being "Feats: must have selected the Bloodline Ability feat at character creation"

Yeah, I'd definitely use the Psychic Handbook classes. A few levels of Rogue, and then a few levels of Psion or Psychic Warrior. Just to simulate the chakra system in Naruto.

If you don't have the Psychic Handbook, the Sorcerer is the closest thing.

That's a good idea. I wonder, though... what about some kind of Lycanthrope template? Although he wouldn't have any conscious control, and you'd have to get rid of all that werewolf-full moon-belladonna stuff...

If you used the "old fox-spirit Naruto from the short story in the Naruto data book", he could be a hengeyokai... :/

Does he ever actually transform into another physical shape because of the Nine Tails? From all I've seen so far, when he taps into the demon's power all he gets is a big physical boost and a whole bucket more chakra.

Yeah, I remember an episode where Naruto and Saske are trapped in a "ice-mirror prison" and fighting this super fast ninja. Naruto thought Saske was dead, and he flipped out, he looked like he gained "fox-like" features, his nose and mouth extened forward, he got fangs, and his eyes changed.

But on another note, I really like the Psychic Warrior interperatation, it can handle alot of the spells needed, the spontanious casting, and good fighting stats... too bad there is no "mirror image" or "fog" psionic power?, no "Kage-bun-no-jitsu"!


Can anyone think of a good build using a combination of PsychicWarrior + Rogue + sorc?

I was thinking maybe PsyWarrior/Monk, but haven't actually statted out any level projections or character build or anything.
