Help me make Iron Kingdoms PCs

whydirt

First Post
I'm playing in a one-shot adventure on Saturday in the Iron Kingdoms setting. Since I've only looked through the books briefly at my FLGS, I don't have a whole lot of knowledge about the IK. Here's my situation:

We're playing in the northern region where the winter elves (I think they're called Nyss) live. One of the PCs is a Nyss ranger and the other is probably going to play a Trollkin sorcerer. I told my friend who invited me that I'd make 2 characters and the DM could pick the one he thought most appropriate or leave the decision to me.

For one character, I'd like to make a Dwarven Paladin. The idea of a rifle toting, fur-hat wearing bringer of justice seems like a fun thing to me. For the other, I'd probably make something from the Nyss since we're adventuring in their homeland, and my friend suggested playing a Druid. My PCs are supposed to be 12th level and I can give them equipment up to 60% of the standard gp listing in the DMG.

What changes in the races and classes should I be aware of?

All suggestions and recommendations are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Privateer Press has released their info to the PC Gen people. So you can download PC Gen (free!) and create your character with it using the Iron Kingdoms rules.

How 'old' are those Privateer Press PCGen files you are talking about? The only ones that I have seen and tried to use were full of inconsistencies and lack of complete information.

If they have been updated to be consistent with Lock and Load, that is awesome! Could you provide a link?

Considering the fact that I am the DM for this expedition into the harsh northlands of the Nyss, please feel free to email me with any particular questions.

As I told the others, the Nyss are a very isolated, insular people, and outsiders are rarely welcome. In a campaign, there would have to be a lot of backstory or strong roleplaying during the course of the campaign to become a 'welcomed foreigner' in their lands.

For purposes of this one-shot, we can assume that histroy is there. the dwarven lands of Rhul are between 150 - 200 miles East of the Nyss. There may be some cordial alliance between the two races begun eons ago that few recall. The occasional emissary from Rhul would be welcome.

Again, any other questions, or specific racial mods, fire me an email.

Will do. Small world, eh?

I haven't actually used the PCGen for about 3 months.

So, if the PP source files are newer than say late September, that might be a good sign. When I was using it and looking at the source files, there were no Nyss, no Skorne, no regional human differences, etc. etc.

I would suspect that there still aren't, since the info in Lock and Load really wasn't leaked b4 the actual publication appeared.

whydirt: Definately a small world! That is one of the joys of our 'little' community!
