I've only been playing for 1 year now and really want to impress someone.
I still have time to make adjustments.

We are doing a One shot X-mas campaign and we are doing 'Secret Santa' for the level 5 characters w/500 gp for supplies. I got the very experienced (usually the DM) guy who isn't the most patient with me... so I really want to give him the BEST POSSIBLE character. Most everyone is doing a goofy character bc of the theme, I will do the goofiness after the bad-ass build.

Other than being very experienced, liking to cause damage & chaos, what types of characters (race/class/etc) does this guy like to play?

I asked for help (bc) he doesnt know im his secret santa) and he said my rolls would make a good barbarian. He is usually the DM but the few times he wasn't he was a fighter and a rouge. It doesnt seem to matter the class/race, he focuses more on making it as OP as possible and the chaos thing... Like lighting the pub we are celebrating at on fire and burning it to the ground... or putting psychadelic mushrooms in the town well and getting everyone high - the team was exiled for a year.. he then snuck it in the water again before we left..

Welcome to the boards, you will love it here.

It seems like you are going for a large min/max exotic character. They all look like they can work. You can never go wrong with a cleric for any group and a fighter type is always fun in a one-shot.

I tend to go for something basic and simple myself. A halfling thief or dwarf fighter, maybe cleric. Come up with a good story and background and how you want to play the character. You can impress people by having a good character and not need to have the best character. Although kicking butt is fun to play in a one-shot.

Tempest Cleric - Minotaur or Firbolg(both are "wise" and fit what you're going for)
Background - Uthgardt, Pirate, or Sailor fit here
Str 15
Dex 13
Con 14
Int 12
Wis 20
Cha 13
AC 18 with Plate, AC 20 with Plate + Shield
Battleaxe, Handaxe, horns(evil Clerics typically use axes instead of maces)
Level 1 - Bane, Fog Cloud, Thunderwave, Command, Shield of Faith
Level 2 - Gust of Wind, Shatter, Hold Person, Blind/deaf, Spiritual Weapon
Level 3 - Call Lightning, Sleet Storm, Mass Healing Word, Spirit Guardians
Feat: Sentinel, Elemental Adept(Lightning), Magic Initiate(Sorcerer - Shocking Grasp, Lightning Lure, Booming Blade, and either Shield or Witch bolt), or even Heavy Armor Mastery would be great

I also like a Fallen Aasimar Oathbreaker Paladin
20 AC with Plate and Shield. 21 AC if Defense Fighting Style, but I'd go with Dueling.
Either 20 Str and 16 Char or 18 Str and 18 Char.
