So I'm in the process of laying out a catacombs mega-dungeon.
The lower portion is a tomb of horrors style traditional D&D trap filled necropolis. That's easy. But the upper portion of it is a working (underground) cemetary/quarry which shouldn't be so dangerous that its unthinkable that commoners and experts roam around in it during the day. It's not entirely essential to the plot, though I suspect that my players may want to investigate it anyway and if they do, I don't want it to be overly boring. That's challenging.
I think I can populate it at night quite easily, but I don't really expect them to be looking for trouble until they've taken some measure of the situation. So I'm assuming at least one day time foray into a reasonably large 'catacombs of paris' type setting. I'm looking for some low CR monsters (CR 3 and under) that what make suitable daytime inhabitants for the darker corners. In particular, I'm looking for suggestions for fey that have a gothic, morbid, or just dark feel to them.
I've got 20 or 30 ideas for encounter areas right now, but any suggestions for dungeon dressing would also be welcome. Assume that I've got the basics covered.
