[Help Me] The Seven Souls of Seven Fallen Celestials...

I'm A Banana

What should they be?

I've finally gelled my longterm campaign idea for my summer Planescape campaign. A longtime foe of the PC's will steal their 'spirit essence' and replace it with the 'spirit essence' of these seven fallen celestials. The campaign will then revolve around the PC's redeeming/conemning these powers, and getting their own spirits back in the end.

So what I need from the Community is some ideas for seven fallen celestials, their sin, and their method of redemption. I want to select one 'native' of each of the upper planes (so something from Arcadia, Celestia, Bytopia, Elysium, Beastland, Arborea, and Ysgard)....

Other than that, run with it. I joyfully await your diabolical plans for my PC's! :)

Seven.

The deadly sins, dude. Each Celestial fell by commiting one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Are there virtues opposite to each sin? I don't remember. Anyhow, perhaps tie those virtuies (making them up if you have to) into redeeming the celestial spirits, via some Exp trick or something.

Well, the 7 deadly sins are: Pride, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, and Envy.

The 7 heavenly virtues are: Hope, Faith, Charity, Temperance, Fortitude, Justice, and Prudence. Unfortunately, those don't map well to the sins.

There's also a song from the musical Camelot (sung by Mordred) called "The 7 Deadly Virtues," which list them as: Courage, Purity, Humility, Honesty, Diligence, Charity, and Fidelity. Those map a bit better, but it's still not perfect.

Mmmkay...how might these map to the D&D planes? I like the idea of using the Seven Deadly Sins, but which celestials should be guilty of which sins?

Hmm.

Pride, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, and Envy.
Arcadia, Celestia, Bytopia, Elysium, Beastland, Arborea, and Ysgard.

Runing off of memory, I'd say:

Celestia should be Pride. After all, pride was Lucifer's flaw...

Ysgard could be Wrath or Gluttony - although those weren't exactly /sins/ to the Norse, so maybe it should be something else.

Bytopia is the gnomish home - maybe Greed there, assuming the old-style jewel-loving gnomes, or Envy, assuming the tinker-style gnomes. Scientific Envy is to be feared. I forget what kind of celestials usually live there though.

Arborea has the eladrin, right, which are sort of Sidhe-like? Then Lust would definitely be appropriate, as the Sidhe were always kidnapping mortals for their perverse sexual pleasures.

More later.

Good idea :D

I'd say that Elysium, the plane of restful and detached goodness should be connected with the sin of sloth.

The Beastlands I would connect with gluttony, the basis of the plane is remaining in the balanced natural order, predator and prey never taking too much.

Arborea should most likely be Lust as laid out by drnuncheon it's often connected with both the fey and the Olympians as a vice, the darker side of them...

Ysgard is a climate in which people are supposed to strive to be the best taht they can be and is also the homeplane of the Takers (unless your running a post faction war game) this would suggest taht the sins of the plane would therefore either envy of those better than you or greed in accumulating power or wealth to the exclusion of all else.

Celestia naturally seems to fit with pride because of the fall and because of the regimented nature taht the higher you get the better you are.

On Bytopia I would choose either greed or envy because I like drmuncheon's thoughts about the gnomes being envious of scientific discovery or greedy with the wealth that their hard work has earned them.

Which leaves Arcadia with Wrath which could be matched with the idea of a 'holy crusade' against chaotic beings which is something partially explored in descriptions of the Harmonium etc.

On who the celestials could actually be I'll think about it :)...

If u go with 7 Sins/virtue . The great ring as a place for everything, so u'll be able to connect an upper "virtue" plane to a lower "sin" plane.
example :
Charity/greed :
Charity could be Elysium / Greed is Abbathor realm : so what about a Dwarven celestial that falls down under power of this greedy dwarf ! (abbathor realm is within the waste or near...)

lot of work to fill the seven, but this would help you as you can do two things at a time : How and why this celestial falled down and Where to go to follow the track/solve the prob.

but u seem to be a comfirmed Planewalker ! so know the dark of it and crisscross tracks !:D
