I'm doing a research paper on gamer stereotypes, and would appreciate if you would participate in my survey.

A followup from my original query. Again, this will be posted on many forums. Please reply only once.

Envision the quintessential typical RPGamer. Which of the following apply to your vision of the stereotype? Please check only one answer per category. Also, please feel free to elaborate on your answers below.

*sigh* To whomever has gone through and checked off every answer, please refrain from doing that. I'm asking for your view of THE stereotypical gamer. Please answer only once per category.

OK, just to make things difficult, do you want what we think society pictures as the typical gamer, or what I think of when someone says "gamer" to me.

Because they are different things. Mostly colored by my interactions with lots of different people at conventions, game days, and online here.

But THERE'S MORE THAN ONE STEREOTYPE!

I checked most of the boxes, as I have known gamers who were male, female, lived alone, were married, dated, had roommates, etc. The only ones I left out were the "Gaymers" (I know they're out there, I have just never gamed with one), and people with an "annual" income, or poor hygene! (I'm sure you exist, too!) The only races I have gamed with are black & white, as well...

Why do you assume that there is only ONE stereotype?!?

Good lord, you guys are making this much more difficult than it is. Read what Xath wrote (emphasis added):

"Envision" is the command form of the verb -- it implies you are the one being commanded to envision the stereotype. This is explicitly stated in the second sentence -- "your vision".

What do you think of when you think of the (stereo)typical gamer? Check those off. Note, this does not ask, who have you gamed with, or what are your personal characteristics. It asks what your vision is of your idea of a typical gamer. That's it.

I'm not saying that there isn't more than one stereotype. I'm just asking what you think the most prevalant widely viewed stereotype of gamers is. I'm not asking what kind of gamers you know personally. I'm asking about the overall vision that "people" in "general" have when they think about "gamers."
