Help me with my Urban Arcana Campaign

Sir Elton

First Post
Okay, I've delved all of the news in my area for today and nothing came upto day to Urban Arcanize. Except probably a lady who is going to court for murdering her supervisor (gee, I hate it when I don't remember all of the details).

So I'm taking a story some time ago and I'm using that as inspiration to put together a solo D20 Modern/Urban Arcana adventure. But if you want to give me some ideas for low level solo adventures here are the rules:

1. Idea has to come from some newsworthy report in your area.

2. It has to include a villian or monster a 1st-3rd lev character can beat.

3. It has to be fantastic or wierd, in the vein of Angel, Van Helsing, or Lord of the Rings in downtown London. :D

Photography, sonar give scientists insight into ocean floor

By Paul Rogers, Mercury News

Completing the most extensive mapping study ever of the ocean floor off Northern California, marine scientists Wednesday unveiled video footage and detailed sonar images of miles of sea bottom between Monterey and Marin County.

The project, a 21-day expedition in April, featured federal researchers on a 224-foot ship towing an underwater camera and using other high-tech gear to uncover some of the agelessness that lies beneath Monterey Bay, Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank national marine sanctuaries.

The information -- an early phase of a project that could take 10 years -- provides valuable insight, scientists say, that will be used to help restore fish populations, track underwater earthquake faults and better monitor the health of the ocean.

What the scientists didn't tell the press is that while they were mapping the sea floor off of Monterey, they found a city. It looks very old, but as if it's still lived in?

What's living there? Depends on the campaign. Maybe it's a colony for rogue dolphin moreaus. Maybe the kinori have set up shop there. But the party is assigned by the California government to find out, and to keep it quiet. But the sunken city is sending ambassadors, and they're not happy...

Demiurge out.

National news - Mayian City found, with Queen's tomb. It has been kept secret for months to prevent tomb raiders from pundering the site.

Plot 1: Not so secret - Characters have been hire to raid it but an evil has been released.

Plot 2: Artifacts from the dig have been brought to your city. Evil is released.

dude, Insurance company of elemental evil. run by mind flayer lawyers and Zuggetmoy's door-to-door salesmen. Buy a claim, or watch your house get swept away by elemental floods, or burned, or earthquaked, or tornadoe'd =)

That is a very good idea, Demiurge. Since I have ideas for Atlantis already, there's no reason not to use this one.

Plot 1 goes against the campaign a bit. The player characters are employees of a company that investigates and protects from monsters.

Plot 2 works.

try this one: Giant African Snails

Everyone! Flee the African War Snail! That one is good too, but the snails need to be bigger. About the size of the spiders or bigger from that recent horror-sci-fi flick. what ever the name of it was.

This one is wierd. I like it! Keep them coming! :D
