Help! My creative juices have frozen!

Grim

First Post
My group just started a campain at 1st level.

I am at a total loss as to what my character should be. The party has a fighter, a ranger, and a wizard. Me and another player havent decided yet.

This is all the DM has told us:

The campain is set on the sword coast of FR, near baulder's gate at the beginning.

Each character is somehow angry or involved with a group of goblin slavers and thier Gnoll master.

I want my character to be an offbeat character, one that spins the normal conceptions of his race or class. Something fun to roleplay, but also good in combat.

Any suggestions? class or race? backstory?

I feel really dumb for asking such a big question, but my brain has absolutly stopped working.

Thanks in advance for help...

Halfling ranger, favored enemy goblinoids. Max out hide, move silently and wilderness lore. Weapon Finesse: Dagger for your first feat; wield one in each hand. Stockpile daggers and throw them as ranged weapons (remember the racial bonus on attack). Maybe get Point Blanc Shot for your second feat? Play him as having a really frenzied hatred for all goblinoids. Maybe even a dual class ranger/barbarian. Nobody expects a really agressive, combat orientated halfling! :p

I don't know the FR world very well but I always thought it would be neat to have a human bard who spends his 1st two feats on Two-Weapon Fighting and Ambidexterity.

crazed halflings

I'm acutally playing a Ghostwise halfling barbarian in a campaign right now. It's a blast! My halfling barb is the resident tank of the group. 60 hp, a 16 STR and a battle axe with a +11 modifier. Lemme tell ya, watching that halfling rage is a scary sight. I'd definitely recommend a halfling anything, though. I've got a halfling rogue in another campaign that's shaping up to be quite the sniper. Or play a dwarven wizard or sorcerer. That's pretty paradoxical too...

When did you sneak into my house? I demand to know! Have you gone through my underwear drawer, too?

Two years ago, I rolled up Savóy, a human bard with twin rapiers. Never got to play him until a game I just applied to on Macray's Keep, 'cept I converted him over to Monte's alt bard. This pretty boy is gonna rawk! :D

As to ideas, Grim, lemee see...how 'bout a very young human female "coast" druid. Or if you wanna get a little farther out, an aquatic elf who's a sea druid. Do either of those get your creative juices flowing? As to combat, I was playing a druid recently who regularly saved the party's bacon. She avoided melee but it would have been a TPK several times if not for her.

Dwarven Rogue, PrC into Thief-Acrobat from S&S (maybe its just Acrobat, I don't remember).

As for story, it wouldn't be workable with the above character concept, but why not play a slaver from a rival organization who uses the other PCs to eliminate the competition?

I'd second the idea for a half-orc bard, as well as, perhaps... well, letting practical considerations enter the picture, you guys look like you're a little short on divine magic... perhaps a dwarf cleric of an elven diety, or something simlarly 'out there...' Odd race/religion combinations often turn out quite a bit of fun (speaking from experience.) :)
