Help! My Players are suffering from an addiction to minis!

Miniatures are great. But my players are overusing them. One of them plain told me that they are a visual planner. So I need help to jumpstart their imaginations more than just playing with them on-line.

I'm currently using msn messenger for my game and the last time, I was wishing that I had hologrammic tech so that they could see the scene in 3-D. Grrr!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to helping them use their imagination? How can I gently encourage them to play Feng Shui style (no maps)?

Then check out OpenRPG at www.openrpg.com

OpenRPG will give you what you want. It has the ability for character sheets, maps, minis, whiteboard, dice tray, and more.

And most important - its free. So no expense to you or the other players.

Elton, are they slowing the game down by using mini's to plot things out, then telling you what they want to do online? That is kinda weird.

Well, not quite. They aren't taking the time to visualize the scene for themselves. They interrogated me for 1/2 hour about the whole scene, it made me very uncomfortable. When you are playing real time like that, you are walking a fine line between slowing down gameplay and keeping the pacing up. The only thing that sucks between my players and I is that I don't put much stock in miniatures. I think they are ugly, most of the time.
