Help needed...

Hello all, I have been coming to this site for quite a while, but I've never posted on the message board before. I need help, though, and I thought this might be a good place to get it.

I am doing an assignment on Dungeons & Dragons for my speech class and I am in need of some information to back up my argument. I am trying to convince my class that some of the stigma's involved in our hobbie are just silly and that you shouldn't judge a person negatively if they play role playing games.

What I need help with is finding information to support my argument. One of the things I want to show the class that D&D is a thriving industry played by a large community. To do this I would like to cite how many copies of the Core Rulebooks WoTC has sold since 3rd Edition came out.

I am having a very hard time finding this information. Is this privilaged information? Am I not looking hard enough? If it is privilaged info, disregard the request, otherwise if someone could direct me to a website with this information it would really help me establish credibilty in my speech and maybe change the way some people feel about our hobby.

Thank you very much.

Hasbro is a public company, and thus has to disclose their sales figures. However, Wizards of the Coast, as a subsidiary, does not. "Official" numbers are thus tough to track down. However, if you look at interview of Anthony Valterra, Ryan Dancey and others of the "business manager" persuasion, including interviews on the ENWorld site, you should be able to get some figures. They won't be entirely up to date, but it's all that I know of.

Arryn,

the best thing to do is to e-mail Anthony Valterra (business manager at Wizards of the Coast), and ask him for any assistance he could provide. his e-mail (someone correct me if I have the wrong address) is zulkir@wizards.com

If he can't provide you specifics, he can at least tell you what's priveledged or what's not.

Good luck with your project!

Henry

Good suggests so far. If I may, I'd suggest changing the subject line of your first post (by editing the first post) to say "Essay on D&D - help?" This will garner a lot more responses to the thread, I believe. Good luck! :)
