Help! Question about Windows XP updates

CrusaderX

First Post
Recently, I've noticed a new icon in my system tray at the bottom right of my Windows XP screen. It's a blue Windows globe that says "Downloading updates: 0%" when I point to it with my mouse, but I can't seem to open or remove this icon. Clicking and double-clicking on it doesn't do anything, and it's now constantly on my screen whereas it wasn't there a week or so ago. And it doesn't seem to be going past 0%.

Does anyone know how I can remove this? I went to Control Panel --> System --> Automatic Updates and changed the setting to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install updates" where it was previously on "Automatically download updates for my computer and install them" since I'd rather load any updates manually rather than having the computer do it by itself. But changing this setting and rebooting didn't make that blue globe icon go away.

Any suggestions? Enclosed is a pic of the icon in question, the blue one on the far left.

Thanks. I played around with the settings and it looks like fully turning off Automatic Updates is the only way to get rid of this icon if you don't want your machine to update on its own.
