Yup, boycotting role-playing game designers because of political beliefs is completely acceptable. This isn't the place to discuss your motivation, though, so I'm sure that no one is going to go down that road here.

And the comments about Sean getting a day job are just ludicrous. Being a game designer for a major company like WotC pays quite poorly, in fact. Doing freelance stuff is boom and bust, which is why Sean has a day job working for Black Isle.

Its amazing to me that people here are mocking the altruism shown by our own community members.

On a more positive note, good luck with the auction, Sean. And I hope your cat gets well soon!

My problem with this isn't that he is putting up stuff for auction to pay for his vet bills. The problem is that this gets a bloody press release-

So it got a bloody press release. I seen more fluff in 30 seconds on Entertainment Tonight than the press release. If he can make money selling his stuff and his work on ebay go for it. There is not much difference between a custom feat or an author at a con offering to place you in a scene in his next book.

I dunno. I look at my medical bills, my loan payments, my mortgage, and I think to myself:

I gotta get me some fanboys.

However, I don't see it as ego-centric. After all, would a carpenter be ego-centric if he crafted a small bookcase in exchange for you buying him dinner? Or if a doctor took a basket of fruit from you if you couldn't afford his bill? It's as much a barter as a sale, in my opinion.

It's a news tidbit, not a press release. A press release would be Sean pushing out a 4 page letter extolling the self-sacrifice involved in selling the books, the uniqueness of the feats/monster classes he creates, and how Brillig is the world's greatest cat.

Chill out dudez. So if someone pays more than SRP for it, why not? They know what they're getting. Someone paid $185 for a french fry on eBay recently. That's e-commerce for you.
