My guess is a few people forgot about this so I thought I would remind everyone. Aren't I a great guy.

You misunderstand me. I don't have any problem with you, or with your auction, or with your cat. What I do have a problem with is the line of sycophants here that would sell their own cat if that would make them friends in some small way with a game designer. Its sad and pathetic.

I agree that such a mentality would be sick and pathetic if it were true. Seeing that most of the people who have replied in support of the auction, and their long-standing and contributions to the community in the past, I don't think these people are who you are talking about. Personally I wound't sell my cat for any price or any reason, even if she does have some extremely bad habits that I'm not going into here.

I think that what you disagree with is the entire notion of celebrity. Some people acheive celebrity status because they're extremely rich, or they act, or they're models, or they write books. I think we can all recognize the following names: Bill Gates, Johnny Depp, Naomi Campbell, Stephen King, and J.K. Rowling. If someone is accomplished at something you are into, what's wrong with treating them as some degree of celebrity? I'm not saying that I fall into this mentality, I mean they are people just like the rest of us, but what makes one type of celebrity more valid than another?

I don't see how this is any different than if any other member of this community had a similar need and proposed an auction to cover expenses. It's a non-issue that's being made into one because people happen to recognize Sean K's name from the cover of a book. The double standard is what is truly sad and pathetic here.

No reason other than I find the constant deification of game designers obnoxious. :p

Absolutely baffling. Disappointing as well.

A guy tries to auction some o his stuff so as to save his pet's life, and gets some wierd, non-specific criticism for his troubles.

Hope the auction goes well Sean.

Yep, good luck, Sean. You've been a solid, useful presence on these boards for quite a while now.

OK, for the record...

I'm not a Sean K Reynolds fanboy.
I dislike some of his opinions (That's between me & him though, not anyone else, and I won't bash him about them)
I'm not an FR fanboy.
I do understand his desire to save a family friend.
I understand that most d20 designers qualify for foodstamps.
He's part of the d20 community, and I've never met him in person, so I'm perfectly willing to assist him when he needs help.

I, personally, don't see the big deal about what he is doing.
He is selling something, on auction, goods and services, to pay for a good or service.
Seeing as I'm about to make a post somewhat like his auction, to pay for something, I don't see the harm in it.

And I think ranking on the guy for trying to raise money to help someone or something he cares about is in poor taste.

And on a semi-personal note: Mr. Renyolds, if you need a few feats or spells or something to help round out, or want the assistance of The Brood, we'd be happy to assist a fellow producer. Just drop me an email, and we'll see what we can do to help.
