HELP! Spur Lord of Cyric PrC: Need prereq's!

Kaptain_Kantrip

First Post
Hi, I loaned my copy of Lords of Darkness to my co-DM today, little realizing I needed to look up the Spur Lord of Cyric PrC within those hallowed pages. Naturally, he's not home. So, could some kind soul please provide me with the prerequisites necessary for a character to gain entry into that PrC? First level benefits of it (and beyond) would be cool, too. Thanks!

prereqs: +4 BAB, Bluff 3, Conct 2, Know(religion) 3, Sense Mot 3, Tumble 5.
patron: Cyric
Feats: Iron Will, Leadership, Lightning Ref, Quick Draw
Special: contact with an outsider in the service of Cyric or a prophetic dream from Cyric

oh yeah, you wanted first level benfits too eh?

BAB = Fighter
Good Saves = Fort

Gains prof with the longsword & one other weapon of their choice

Special--

Dark Bond (su): Immune to harmful spell-effects and supernatural abilities that originate from Cyric. This manifests as a skull surrounded by dark flames over the spur lord's head.

2nd level (su): Secret Blade, one hand functions as if it were a glove of storing.

etc...etc... (tired of typing ;) :p )

Thanks!

Man, they sure jammed the prereq's full of stuff a fighter/cleric will never want or need (Tumble 5 ranks? These guys wear heavy armor most likely, making Tumble attempts impossible). Quick draw is hardly ever an issue in my games (nobody's ever taken it, nor have we ever bothered to impose a penalty on those without it--just one more rule we can't be bothered to remember). The save booster feats are unneeded if you already have an anti-paladin/blackguard divine grace thing going on (saves too high already).

Reminds me of all those PrCs that want you to take clumps of near-useless feats like Endurance, Run, Skill Focus, Sunder, Toughness, etc. Nobody is going to deprive themselves of all the good feats they need to survive just to get into a PrC; they'd be more powerful without it! Wish the designers would realize that making it so hard to get in is not conducive to seeing those PrCs being used with any frequency, and only leads to player frustration at having to waste tons of skill points and feat slots on things they don't want or need. Sure, a little sacrifice is okay, but this is too much!

Giving all these (in some cases absurd) prereq's means that everybody would have to know exactly what PrC they want to get into at level 1, which is really asking too much, as you don't even really know your character's personality/desires yet, let alone what they wanna do when they grow (level) up.

I'll agree that some prerequites are absurd, but some do make sense. I like that a shifter has to take Endurance and the dwarven Defender needs toughness. PrCl are about choices. You don't have to go there, but if you do you must do such and such first.

No problem! :D

I dunno, I think the prereqs fit nicely (except for Tumble that is). You make a big assumption that someone taking the class will have Divine Grace, that is by no means a given.
Spur Lord is a pretty strong PrC IMO, and removing any of the prereqs (except for Tumble :) ) is really unnecessary.

That said I agree that getting into a PrC should be more intuitive than it is in most cases.

But hey, you asked for prereqs, anything that stretches into a discusion of PrCs needing less stringent prereqs should go in a different forum ;)

The painting of the Spur Lord seemed to imply he wore heavy armor. I had a vision of Knights Templar rather than sneaky types... I don't use Cyric IMC and was planning on adopting it to a Bane type deity instead. That was probably where I went wrong (that & the fact that I didn't have the book to check--just a mental picture of a skull-faced black knight from the Lords of Darkness illustration).

See the other thread for my comment on this... You seem to be remembering the picture incorrectly. It actually has nothing to do with the Spur Lord. It features two heavily armored pure Clerics and a heavily armored pure Fighter, none of which have any levels of Spur Lord. ;)
