Help with a sleep poison idea

First Post
Here's the situation. The Party is comprised of all elves except for their Human guide. They've made an incursion into "savage" territory (actually they are just trying to pass through)

The savages are humans, very native-americanish, and they want to come at night and kidnap one of the party's females so the group "leader" will have to fight the chief's son to get her back.

I was thinking of having a sleep poison that creates gas when burnt shot into their fire if the party can be snuck up on at night.

Can anybody think of one off the top of their heads? If nobody can I was thinking maybe DC15 fort save initial:Unconsious 2d6 rounds, secondary 2d6 hours - burning one "dose" creates a 20ft radius cloud....

Suggestions?

The closest analogue I've seen is the Drow knowout poison (in the DMG). This is an injury poison, however. There's also the ingested Oil of Taggit, causing unconsciousness until woken up as secondary damage.

Your poison is reasonably powerful, too. This would be more expensive than the drow poison to acquire. Maybe 150-200 gp for a dose, if this ever comes up (say, if the PCs want to buy some or make it). It could be powerful in the hands of PCs (as long as their foes have low-mid Fort saves).

I like your idea, however. Good luck (especially as the characters are elves- sharp eyes and ears )!

They don't have to get especially close since they'll be firing an arrow into a fire. It would actually sadden me if they managed to knock the entire group out without a struggle. It's more of an opening salvo type thing than a whole encounter.

They'll be seriously outnumbered if it comes down to it. Their first encounter with the savages involved lethal force, it may take them some time to realize that the savages aren't trying to kill. The Savages will have a druid to cover their escape (entangle) and they are the superior horsemen so they'll be more likley to succeed in pushing the horses rather than the party.

Also with Elves, they only "sleep" 4 hours a night so it gets even more difficult for the savages to pull this off.

Immune to magical sleep effects, but they like... don't sleep. Would this be their first ever sleep?

Sleep isn't a very good noun to use there, but i'm too tired to do better...

That's one heck of a cloud! As far as I know, th eInhaled poisons in the DMG are still for one 5' square only.

The closest comparison would be Dust of Sneezing and Choking:

This fine dust appears to be dust of appearance. If cast into the air, it causes those within a 20-foot spread to fall into fits of sneezing and coughing. Those failing a DC 15 Fortitude save take 2d6 points of Constitution damage immediately. In addition, those failing a second DC 15 Fortitude save 1 minute later are dealt 1d6 points of Constitution damage. Those who succeed on either saving throw are nonetheless disabled by choking (treat as stunned) for 5d4 rounds.

Faint conjuration; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, poison; Price 2,400 gp.
I'd probably price yours at around 1000 gp per dose, at the very least. (And if you call it "unconsciousness", nobody can complain about Elves being immune...)

Can you think of a better way to incompacitate (sp?) a group of elves to steal away a female?
