Help with a wemic

I want to create a wemic character.(advancement as character class)
I can figure out the ability adjustments with no prob but does the wemic who has a CR of 3 have an advancemen(ECL +X) to the character class

Can someone tell me or suggest what would be a good adjustment for the wemic?

According to Soladrin's ECL calculator, a Wemic is ECL +7.

I'm not sure what the ECL listed in the recent Dragon article is, though.

How was the +7 figured out? I would like to know that.

Well, they have 5 HD, so that's +5 ECL right there.

For stats, they get +8 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Con, -2 Cha... which are extremely nice benefits, with only a penalty in the "dump-stat" for 3e (Cha).

They have +4 natural armor. They have +8 racial bonus to jump checks. They have a claw attack with good damage. They are Large, which gives them Reach. Their base speed is 40 feet. They are quadripedal, which grants them special bonuses which I can't recall right now. (It's something like they are harder to trip and bull-rush.)

Add all of these together, and you have a race that is more that +7 ECL, IMHO.

As for how it is figured out... there's no perfect formula for this. You kinda have to eyeball it. That said, Soladrin has a fairly good system for figuring out ECLs. It can be found at http://uenics.evansville.edu/~jc84/DD3/Monster_ECL.htm.
