help with drow character

First Post
ok, so i am making a drow character for my latest campaign, starting in two weeks. the character s will be 6th level, so with drow ECL +2, that makes my character 4th level, my group has no rogue and also needs a bit of backup in melee combat.

for ranged combat i will use hand crossbow just for flavour.
for melee i have three ideas:

1. dual shortswords. this is good because i only need to spend 1 feats to get good with it, as opposed to 2 if i was using two different swords, alsoi can get twin sword style feat.

2.two-bladed sword. do the damage of two longswords but only take -2 to attacks, but they are very rare and no finesse and requires exotic proficiency.

3.spiked chain. finessable, reach, no ambidexterity or 2-weapon fighting needed, no twin sword style feat though.

stats: drow
+2 dex
+2 int
+2 cha
-2 con

stats: rolled
16
14
12
11
10
6

preferably going with high dex,int and cha.

any comments/help/ideas/suggestions on weapons or which classes to take and what stat placements???

I hate to sound like a finnicky role player, but maybe you should think about what the character is, not what his stats are.

A little campaign background might help shed light on what sort of character you want to make...

If not, then make the drow a coward. scared of combat, so acts defensively. A cleric of mask!!!! take sanctuary and darkness so he can hide! protect the other characters if you must, but run if you're going to get hurt.

With those stats, you have quite the dilemma. The 6 is really going to hurt you if you decide to play a Rogue. The way I see it, you have a hard choice. You can have...
a) 6 Strength - This will hinder your damage-dealing capacity, as well as your ability to carry equipment.
b) 4 Constitution - Definitely a no-no for a melee fighter.
c) 6 Wisdom - You have -2 to all Spot and Listen checks, which can seriously hurt a Rogue. Luckily, you have a +2 bonus to Spot, Listen, and Search checks. You still have to watch out for those Will saves, though.
d) 8 Charisma - This means a -1 to your Charisma-related skills, and you did mention that you wanted a high Charisma...

I think your best bet is either a 6 Wisdom or an 8 Charisma. Your stats should look something like this:
Str 12 (11+1), Dex 18 (16+2), Con 12 (14-2), Int 12 (10+2), with either a 6 Wisdom and an 14 Charisma, or 8 Charisma and 12 Wisdom.

You'll be a 4th level character, so you'll only have 2 feats. Because of this, I would stick with the Spiked Chain. Take EWP and Weapon Finesse. 4 levels of Rogue will get you +2d6 Sneak Attack, Evasion, and Uncanny Dodge (Dex to AC), plus a good selection of skills.

You'll need to be careful. Expect to have the lowest HP in the group. (If you're lucky, you might have the same as the group's Wizard. ;) ) A reach weapon, a high AC, and lots of ranks in Tumble should help, though.

hmm ... I like the 6 wis idea (... or an 8 int, which is only -1) .... The one attribute will probably affect the way you roleplay ...

the 6 strength sounds good too ... you could be a really good rogue or ranger but a weakling ... lucky your family decided you had some potential and didn't kill you out right (high cha?)

he has level/s of fighter due to his training in the academy in menzoberranzan, on a surface raid he escaped the patrol cos' he is a goody-two shoes drow, since he has honed his roguish talents of being able to stay out of sight when needed, i mean with half of faerun wanting your ass on a plate you need to learn how to survive. i wanted spiked chain just for a change to all the drow with two swords (i know i a thinking of using it, but the spiked chain is again about flavour.)

so just as an idea:
fighter 2/rogue 2 (fighter twice then rogue twice)

str 10
dex 16+2=18
con 14-2=12
int 10+2=12
wis 6
cha 12+2=14

feats:4

skill points:38

this character is very poor, i need lots of help.

You might want to get the rogue first, for more skill points. Of course, this hoses your hit points, but I generally think 8 skill points (base) is a heckuva lot worse than 32, compared to the loss of 4hp.

The spiked chain is a solid choice, especially if you use Expert Tactician, from S+S, that requires Combat Reflexes. I reccomend taking 3 levels of rogue and 1 level of fighter, but that brings out XP penalties, assuming you use them.
