Help with PrC for LN cleric of St. Cuthbert?

I'm also playing a half-orc Cleric in our game; unfortunately he has an INT of 8, which means 1 skill point per level! This puts prestige classes with high skill requirements out of his reach. It would be nice, for divine casters, to see some PrCs that you can get into via faith, rather than knowledge. Does anyone know of any? If not, then Clc20 will be fine!

cheers,

Mark

agrippa: You're right. I'm sure the DM would bend the rules to allow a Cuthbertian to enter the Church Inquisitor PrC.

However, the skill requirements are annoying: Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks and Spellcraft (8 ranks). For your typical human cleric with Int 10, that leaves only one skill point per level to put into something else. So which gets neglected: Concentration or Knowledge (religion)? Both are essential.

d(sqrt(-1)): If you're willing to start with one level of barbarian, you could make it into the Fist of Hextor PrC: use your (4-1)*4=12 skill points at Bbn1 to take 4 ranks in Intimidate, 2 ranks in Spot (cc), and 2 ranks in Knowlege (religion) (cc). Multiclass into cleric and take 2 more ranks in Know (rel): you're now a Bbn1/Clr2. Start taking cross-class ranks in Spot until you meet the PrC requirement, which will be at Bbn1/Clr6. Conveniently enough this also gives you the BAB +5 that you need for the PrC.

I will also make my usual recommendation that you head to Crystal Keep's d20 page and grab the 3.0 Index of Prestige Classes. (You want the 3.0 index because it includes PrCs from the "splatbooks".)

Finally, I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Clr9/Warpriest2: BAB +8/+3, F/R/W +9/+3/+6, casts 5th level spells (as a Clr10), gets the Glory prestige domain, and can use anti-fear morale abilities on self and allies. Then back to cleric so you don't lose any more caster levels.

Thanks to all for the advice and discussion.

pawsplay: There's nothing wrong with cleric, but I like being a PrC munchkin sometimes. If I can't find something appropriate, Clr20 will be fine.

I'm currently a big fan of Cleric (Protection, Destruction), taking Extra Smiting from the Complete Warrior. While Divine Grace is nice, two good Saves for 20 levels is nothing to sneeze at, either. The example given uses Destruction and Strength, also a choice I like. How about a LN pseudo-Paladin?

3 Extra Smiting
6 Lightning Reflexes
9 Cleave
12 Improved Initiative
15 Extend Spell
18 Improved Sunder

Josh,

Sorry I thought you said that wasn't an option.

High Judicator is a pretty decent pr-class. You might want to switch Judgement with another domain (perhaps retribution), but otherwise it works well for LN guys. (Especially since Law is another requirement) There's also Pursuivant which is good to fight against other churches you might not like. (Though specifically tailed to fight titanspawn, it can be changed as the book suggests) Both of these can be found in PG: Clerics and Druids.

pawsplay: A lot of good suggestions there. One other feat I thought I would mention: Divine Vigor, from Defenders of the Faith. Pre-req: ability to turn/rebuke undead, Extra Turning. Spend a turn/rebuke undead attempt to gain a +2 enhancement bonus to Con and +10 ft. to base speed for a number of minutes (not rounds) equal to your Cha modifier. I think this is the second best Divine feat, after Divine Might.

Nightfall: Thanks for the heads up. I like the sound of High Judicator -- the PrC could stink and I'd still like it, just for the name. Pursuivant would be a good fit to represent the church of St. Cuthbert's rivalry with that of Pholtus (or vice versa).

Nightfall: yes, a breakdown would be helpful, as I don't own the Player's Guide to Clerics and Druids. I was trying to page through it last night in the bookstore, but some annoying man with a name tag kept saying something about it being closing time.

It's what I do. :)

Requirements:

Base Will Save: +5
Feats: Iron Will, Sacred Defender (Miracle feat) [Editor's Note: Sacred Defender is found in PG: Clerics and Druids as well as R&R II. You do need to be able to channel positive energy]
Skill: Sense Motive 6 ranks

Insightful Warning: At 1st level, grants the High Judicator a +1 insight bonus to his AC. This ability increases to +2 at 4th and +3 at 7th.

[If you need the template, I'll email it to you.]

Pursuivant
[Editor's Note: Again I stress this class was created to fight TITANSPAWN and their spellcasters. So there's a lot of emphasis on fighting sorcerers and druids.]

HD: d8

Requirements:

Feat: Skill Focus: (Knowledge [religion])
Skills: Intimidate 6 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 6 ranks, Sense Motive 6 ranks, Spellcraft 3 ranks,
Special: Must be able to turn or rebuke undead
Special: Must receive the formal blessing of a church devoted to the gods to undertake the vocation of pursuivant.

BAB: As Cleric
Saves: As Cleric
Detect Taint: At 1st level, a pursuviant can detect sorcerers much like detecting evil. If a character/creature has one or more levels in sorcerer it will be detected. If a sorcerer has a scion feat, the range on this effect is considered doubled.
Divine Blessing: At 1st level, similiar to Paladins, but only applies to Wis modifier and only works against sorcerer, druid, and ranger spells. Other divine and arcane spellcasters are not affected.
Smite Spellcaster: Similiar to Paladin's smite evil, at 2nd level, a pursuivant may add his/her Wis modifier to his attack and damage roll. This only works against sorcerers, druids and rangers, (regardless of alignment). If used against a non "enemy" spell caster, then it is wasted for that day. No multiple smites.
Improved Counterspell: At 3rd level, pursuivant gains a +1 bonus to his/her Spellcraft checks when attempting to counterspell against a druid or sorcerer. This bonus increased by +1 at 5th, +1 at 7th, and +1 at 9th. (Cummaltive)
Compel Titanspawn: At 4th level, pursuivant can "compel" a someone to admit to being a follower of the titans. The pursuivant makes an opposed Intimidate roll against the creature's Bluff. She adds her level in pursuivant as a compentence bonus when doing so. If successful, the creature admit she is a titan worshipper. This effect is similiar to dominate person, but only compels him/her to admit worship and any known associates. The creature isn't remorseful or repentant.
Conviction: At 4th level, the pursivant gains the ability to create an aura similiar to bless. The pursuivant and his/her allies within 50ft of him/her gain a +1 bonus to their attacks and savings throws against fear. (Similiar to bless) This increase by +1 at 6th, +1 at 8th, and +1 at 10th. (Cumulative).
Counterspell Substitution: At 6th level, the pursuivant gains the ability to substitute one or more of his/her turn undead checks to counter a druid or sorcerer spell. By expending one of his/her turn undead checks and the spell of equal level being cast, the pursuivant can counterspell the spell being cast. However the pursuivant still needs to roll a spellcraft check to idenifty the spell to be able to counter it.
Flames of Righteousness: At 10th level, the pursuivant gains the ability to cast fire storm against the followers of the titans. This spell will not affect those that do not follow the titans. (Druids and rangers however are considered followers regardless of alignment). The spell variable are determined by the character's level, even if he/she is not able to cast the spell.

There you go.
