Help with Traveller

Oh, looks like I've got a call. Is it possible to stick some form of laser on the Sunstreaker? She's thinking for dogfights and such, to be more than the fastest missile launcher in the galaxy :D. (Her words, not mine!)

I must admit, it looks cool.

I'm wondering; it's atmosphere capable obviously. Would the gravity effects be as bad in low orbit or space?

You could mount a mining laser (the best choice for a low-power effective laser) in the turret to replace a missile launcher, but then your agility will drop to 3 which causes you to lose 5 points of armor class. Its a trade-off. The power that would go to a "dogfight" weapon is what gives the fighter its agility and armor class.

Hmmm, but that only would be the case if you were not tricky. A solution to this would be to lower the fighter's endurance to 36 hours and not allow couches for 2 crewmembers (comes standard with a small craft bridge). The extra space created by removing a couch and the fuel will be taken up by a Light MRL that uses a ROF of 20 and has rockets that are twice the cost, it will fucntion as a Visual range weapon (within same hex only) that does 1d8 damage (starship scale) and has a magazine of 5 bursts 20. This way, you don't even have to get rid of any missiles and it will look like machinegun tracer fire when it goes off.
Aren't you glad that T20 is written to allow things like this?

The acceleration effects of the fighter would be even worse in an atmosphere. You may as well add +1 to the Fort save DC at 7G in atmo and +3 to the Fort save at 8G in atmo. In space, you rely upon attitude thrusters to maneuver which is rough for acceleration. In atmosphere, you would be using a combination of attitude thrusters, flaps, and wings to maneuver with which would enable tighter turns but also higher G-loads on the pilot.

Would the MRL drop the agility? If it doesn't that would be absolutely sweet; the drop in fuel load is unfortunate, but fits the idea of a super-insane fast and agile thing.

I'll recommend "Great Fortitude" and such, I think :D.

Would the stats be possible? I'm reading this design sequence chapter again.. and I'm still completely confused.

Would that suffer the rules with attacking larger ships and things, being a non starship weapon?

Edit: Actually, don't worry anymore. This starship creation/combat/everything is beyond my means. I'll tail-end the star wars starship combat on. I could understand that.

But thanks for doing that work for me. I'm a quitter, I know it :D.
