Hero Quest 25 Anniversary (crowdfunding), the disillusion

Yesterday I bought the Hero Quest new edition. It was a sweetbitter moment because it was like to see an old friend again but the sad part is I can't play with anybody. I haven't got friends to play in the weekend and my nieces live in other city. The artistic style of couse is different but it keeps the same vibes.

Very cool. The new expansions that keep coming out look like a lot of fun.

I have an entire closet filled with dungeon crawl games thanks to Heroquest, but the only one that comes close is Dungeon Saga Origins. The rest are fun too, but overly complicated IMO.

Also, I looks like there's an app that allows you to play solo.

The app works pretty well, despite a few glitches.

However when playing the classic Quests next to modern ones, you can really feel the age. Some older Quests are hella boring and dull. The designers deliberately padded some of them with pointless nonsense.

We played through the original Quest book then started Karak Varn and got so bored that we stopped (players aged 70, 43, 39 and 13, the eldest having played the game religiously in the 90s).

Not a wasted investment though; HeroQuest comes with so many useful minis for monsters and furniture (not to mention solid doors), that I mostly use them for TTRPGs

It's still a great game to play. I have the big release they did a while back, and recently got several copies of the revised release which is cheaper, smaller, more economical and made more for Big Box store sales. Both are great, and the smaller and cheaper release adds a few things for those who already own the big release version!

My only recommendation would be to purchase the newer quest expansions. The older ones... have aged poorly, to be honest. Skip to the new ones; they're far more compelling and interesting (Jungles of Kethrak in particular).

The sad part is to buy first expansions. Yesterday I asked in Toy'R'us and the dependent told me there is more demand than offer, they are sold very soon. I hope Hasbro wanted to release new editions of all the expansions for the new players who bought the game in the last months or years. If the sales of the expansions are goods their strategy should to release new editions instead speculation. The brand needs new players, and then all the expansions should be avalaible.

I have read the future expansion will be the "wizards of Morcar", that with the necromancer, the shaman orc, storm wizard and great mage.
