Heroic Allies and Reputation

I'm currently playing in a campaign in which the players are all adventurers in a large dungeon, one so vast and with so much teleportation magic it seems nearly infinite. Inside is a town, Free Town, made up entirely of adventurers. My character, a psychic, has no need of magical items. However, I'd still like to accumulate wealth. I just want to spend it on something I consider more valuable: Reputation.

Essentially, I want to donate my wealth to the community and consider it a pool of "points". My donation would come in the form of healing and alchemical components (for example, last session I donated 20,000 gp worth of diamonds for resurrection spells). When I'm in town and I need a specific adventurer for a mission (say, a Cleric if we're fighting Wraiths, or a cold-oriented spell caster against fire elementals) I can hire one without having to worry about sharing loot.

The cost would essentially be the same as a Planar Ally spell scaled for the whole day, so about 500 gp per hit die the character has, since most of the delves into the dungeon take about half a day. Also, since Planar Ally doesn't reduce Xp due to having more characters, we wouldn't lose XP for having an additional person in the party. Plus, as a Neutral Good character in a town that is predominantly good, it's likely that anyone I get to help isn't going to just backstab the party for the treasure.

So, what do you think? I think it establishes my character's personality, while fleshing out the community and providing a more tangible benefit than handing an angel 5,000 gp and having it poof away.

I think this works. As a DM I would track your donations to the various factions in town and the kinds of options and influence you have would be entirely dependent on where you spent your money.

One thing I would consider is who you don't donate to, and how that might create some jealousy in town. They might see that as a slight and become jealous or angry. I think an entire adventure could spiral out of this, if it were incorporated in your game.
