Heroic Feats: where are the "gimmes"?

Thanks for the ideas all. For the record, the two "forgettable choices" were: wizard (armor proficiency leather and jack of all trades) and warlock (improved dark one's blessing and jack of all trades).

I might swap out some of the feats for some suggested here.

Heroic-tier gimmies for all classes:
- Improved Initiative
- Toughness
- At least one Racial feat each, two for many races

Gimmies for Wizards:
- Leather Armor
- Linguist
- Expanded Spellbook (around 8th or 10th level)

Gimmies for Warlocks:
- Pact-improvement feat is quite good
- Chain Armor may be good, depending on Int
- Plate & Shield may be great, if you have the Strength
- Ritual Caster

So far I've found this feat useless. Could you explain what 3rd choice dailies you are selecting and under what circumstances you would prepare them over your first two choices?

If expanded spellbook worked for utilities it would be a very good feat, and it will probably become a must have feat after the arcane power source book comes out and adds a bunch of options, but in the game's current state it seems near useless to me.

I was thinking of the new Illusion spells in Dragon 364, but now that I try to justify having three spells per level, it seems I could always dump at least one of them.

Nope, I think you're right. Simple retraining will do pretty much everything I'd wanted to do with this feat.

My Heroic Tier feats are probably:

1 Toughness, Armor Profiency (Leather) [ for humans]
2 Improved Initiative
4 Initiate of the Faith
6 Action Surge
8 Human Perseverence
10 Durable

This is spooky. Up to level 6, we picked the same feats in the same order. I haven't yet decided on level 8 or 10 though.

Honestly, it kinda bums me out that there are any "gimme" feats. I'd prefer to think that whatever I pick is gonna be a decent choice for my character, within reason, of course.

Maybe that's not even truly possible without making every feat identical, though.

I don't think it's possible to achieve an absolute, Platonic-ideal level of balance, but one can certainly strive to get as close as possible. For what it's worth, I think 4e is a significant improvement over 3.x when it comes to balancing feats and avoiding "must haves". Even the best feats in 4e are rarely as crucial or as strong as 3.x feats like Precise Shot or Quicken Spell.

Channel Divinity - Correlon's Grace. Hard to shoehorn into Warlords, but it's a fantastic feat for paladin or cleric - a free movement once in every fight that someone spends an action point?

Or just maybe, this is the "gimme" list for a Wizard... Actually, I really want to take Initiate of the Faith earlier. My original list had it at level 1 instead of Leather Armor.

What is your list?
