Heroic Surge, or Dissipate Energy?

I'd go for heroic surge, but that is mainly because I intensely dislike the "dissipate energy" power - I don't remember seeing anyone parrying lightsabres with their bare hands in the films and it won't be happening in any star wars game *I'm* part of by my hands :)

(we saw darth vader stop a blaster bolt with his hand once on Bespin, in Ep5. That is something I'd allow. Heck, I'd probably make it work the opposite way to the way the book describes, so that can affect vitality damage but not wound damage!)
take a look at Block, a class feature Guardians pick up at 9th level and Consulars at 10th...

"This is a modified version of deflect (defense) that allows the Jedi to deflect a ranged attack without the use of a lightsaber. The Jedi must have some form of protective gear (such as armored gauntlets) or an item that can withstand the ranged attack."

always thought that was the ability Vader was using on Bespin.

Hey Pendragon, Im a GM, And Personally I advise you pick up Dissapate. While Herioc Surge is excellent for those move and strike situations, and can end a battle a lot faster, theres always that situation where the dying Bounty Hunter gets lucky and pulls off a 20 on you, and rolls some godly damage roll, and youll wish you had Dissapate.

That would be a better way of handling it especially if the jedi defence ability allowed actual blocking of stuff rather than just adding to AC (a situation we house-ruled in our campaigns).

I'm currently playing a Jedi Guardian, eventually going into Weapon Master. He'll be dual-wielding lightsabers.

My question is, which feat would you choose, between Heroic Surge, and Dissipate Energy?
Heroic surge, no question, since it's one of the most important feats for any character in Star Wars D20 (or in D20 Modern as well). It's a feat you will use in just about every session (at least any where there is combat going on). Why? It let's you break the rules of the D20 action sequence. Need to be somewhere and can't quite make it? Heroic surge. Need to take an opponent down, but you failed? Heroic surge. Need to do something vital but you failed the first time? Heroic surge. Just got hit with a blaster bolt? Heroic surge and Heal Self.:)

Take the feat: it's one of the most in genre feats available too!
