Heroquest on Ebay/Where can I get Hard Plastic Minis?

I decided that it was about time I find out how much people are getting for thier copies of Heroquest on Ebay. During my search, I found that a full set, plus the two expansions, was going for $36.00. That seems like a fair price to me, but meanwhile I also discovered a copy of something called Advanced Heroquest. Now, this looks to me like some kind of knock-off imitation product and not the real thing. It does, however, have exactly what I'm looking for: some Hard Plastic Minis.

Are there any companies that still produce Hard Plastic Minis. These are the only kinds I really want. I want solid colored hard plastic minis on 1 inch bases. I'd be willing to buy a bulk of them if possible, and I just don't see any current publishers from a quick google. I'd be interested in any knowledge a board-member could share with me about acquiring similar miniatures.

occassionally, people sell off thier heroquest minis by themselves. I dont know if they have incomplete or damaged books/gameboards that keep them from selling them as a set, but it does happen. I recently got 40 (yes... 40!!!) of the Skeletons with scythes (30 of them were painted, quite well actually) and 7 of the zombies (also painted). Keep your eyes peeled on ebay.

Add to that the Warhammer Quest minis I have already (goblins, bats, rats, spiders, and minotaurs), that's quite a few plastic minis. I know my local game store has the "Rats, Bats, Spiders, Goblins" pack that is identical to what you get in warhammerquest (sans the heroes and the minotaurs).

Some Heroquest history you probably do not want ;)

Heroquest was a joint venture between Games Workshop and Milton Bradley. They also did a pseudo mass combat game (the name of which escapes me currently). Anyway the deal did not work out to GW's satisfaction - so they made a new game - Advanced Heroquest. More complicated than Heroquest and the miniatures are a little nicer as well. Finally, GW abandoned Advanced Heroquest and made Warhammer Quest. If you could find the mass combat game it is stinking with hard plastic minis.

Hello :)

The mass combat game was called 'Battle Masters' IIRC :D

If you liked the HQ style mini's then there's a company called 'em4 miniatures' that currently puts out a few heroquest-style fantasy mini's (though there is only 6 in the current range - 3 dwarves and 3 orcs). They are moulded in grey plastic (base and all - just like the HQ ones) - and cost a mere £0.20 each :o (or £7.50 for 50). Admittedly they are not terribly detailed - but at £0.20 each, I can't complain :)

Here's the link to their UK online store (sorry - not sure if there is a US stockist):

Also I heard that there is a D&D board game that has just been released over here in the UK (I presume it's available in the US already - or soon will be) that appears to be a heroquest knockoff (and nothing wrong with that IMO :) ). Anyway the following link is a picture I just found with a quick google search:

I found about a 75% complete set in sombody's trash a few years back of battlemasters. They are good cheap minis. orcs goblins, wargs, goat demons chaos warriors and an ogre make the monsters side. the good side is perfect for a town guard

I can never understand why airfix don't produce a fantasy set in line with their military/modelling others (approx £4 for 32 figures). I'm sure they'd make a mint.

My apologies if this is completely contrary to what you're looking for, but Games Workshop has multipart plastics for just about every one of their armies.

Yeah, a box of them runs 30 USD, but you're usually getting between 16 and 20 miniatures. The nice thing is that you can customize the poses, to some extent, by just glueing the part at a different angle ;)

The price per box is great if you want a horde of zombies and skeletons to use while playing D&D (the 20 per box), but if you want heavily armored foes it's not so great (12 per box, for the Chaos Warriors).

I play Warhammer, but I've bought a couple of regiment boxes for the express purpose of having miniatures for D&D... On top of all of that, sniffing the glue while putting them together can be ... er, fun ;)

Hello,

You have several options open to you. em-4, as noted above, puts out some nicely done plastic orcs and dwarves. I am in the US and ordered from the UK with no problems.

Also, check out American Science & Surplus, which has some loose plastic figures from TSR's old Dragon Strike (I think) board game.

(Click the "More" button at the bottom of the page to get to the D&D figures)

Twilight Creations puts out a game called Zombies!!!, but also put out a bag of 100 zombies (off white and glowing) rubbery plastic miniatures for $9.99.

Lastly, while not hard plastic but rather resin, check out the fairly broad range of figures put out by Fortress Figures. These are cheap, well done, and fit nicely on the grid.

Hope this helps,
