Heroscape - anybody tried it

Hasbro makes a set of stackable hex terrain that looks like it might work for D&D. Has anybody else tried it?

The game's fun, demoed it at GenCon2006. The hexes are about the right size, maybe a little large, but if you use minis that are to scale, it could be an interesting alternative use to the game itself.

Love Heroscape. Bought two copies of the core set. Great game. Considered using it for D&D, but seems like it'd take too long to set up a map. Combat takes long enough as it is without spending 20 minutes fitting together all these tiles.

Love the game itself.
It is easier for my boys ( 8 and 5 ) to play it than the DDM game.
I never have thought of using it for a D&D game cause I usually use my Tac-Tiles.

We definitely use the terrain for D&D and also some minis (I think I'll be using one tomorrow, if they get that far in the adventure).

It is a different game than the DDM skirmish game, for sure. My only complaint is that for a game that isn't collectible it can be hard to find the set you want.

Also, I believe the original master set is about to be replaced by something else. So, if you don't have any and might play, buy a couple of master sets.

Finally, Toy R Us in the USA generally has a buy one get one free Hasbro sale in the spring/summer. Once you do get in, that is the time to buy.

We don't use the tiles, but a guy in the group has a bunch of the minis and we use those a fair amount. I'd rate them as a step down in quality from the DDM's, but still good minis on the whole and you can find some odder stuff than you ca in the DDM line. I've picked up a few booster packs when I've found them on discount and overall I've been pleased with the purchases.

My kids and I love playing it. It does take a while to set up the terrain, but it really helps bring multi-dimensional elements to an encounter, especially if you add the terrain and bridge supplements.

Its cool. My fiance and her dad love it, but its far too simple for my tastes. I prefer Dreamblade as there is a lot more strategy involved. It does look very cool though and the new castle pieces are really neat.

That's like comparing apples and oranges... Heroscape is a non-collectible (well, non-randomized, at least) miniatures game, and Dreamblade is a collectible board game.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Dreamblade and I'd play it over Heroscape in a heartbeat, but it's a stretch to call it a miniatures game. It has more in common with Chess or Risk than Heroscape or Warhammer. Just seems odd to me to compare Heroscape and Dreamblade out of the blue like that.
