Hey Chris - Nice cover for Nyambe!

Thanks for all the great info. I am truly looking forward to this release. Hopefully, it will do well enough to warrant some follow-up resources. Best of luck. Judging from what I saw on your .pdf version on your website, I know I'll be buying a copy.

Voodoo is a Hoylwood version of Vodun, which is based on "La Regula Lucumi" (the Yoruba religion), which is more-or-less what the religious system in Nyambe is based upon.

For rules governing Caribbean Voodoo (the historical kind, not the Hollywood kind), you can look to Skull & Bones upon it's release. (and, speaking of which, we should have an announcement at GAMA of its new publisher and release date).

It should dovetail quite nicely with the material in Nyambe. (Which I cannot wait for, by the way!)

That's cool - there was some speculation that a form of voodoo would make itself present in S&B.

<sigh>

I think I'm going to have to sell drugs to support my gaming addiction.

"amazon"

I really don't like the idea of dropping the term "Amazon." The virtues of the term are that people know what it means -- warrior women -- and that is a CONSIDERABLE virtue, when it comes to introducing folks to what is a regrettably alien set of cultures. The downside is all the competing and incompatible renditions of the amazon concept out there. Maybe the compromise is to have "[Socio-Political/Geographical Adjective] Amazon" as the name of a prestige class? Like, "Nibomayan Amazon"? Then, like "Zombi Cultist," you're providing more detail and context than the common-use term alone. (I.e., having "Cultist" as a prestige class would be a bit uninformative.)

In other randomness -- Michelle and I visited Brazil in February, and enjoyed the strong African influence there. We took pictures of some really cool statues of orishas (or orixas, as I believe the Brazilians spell it); I should e-mail copies to you when I get a chance, Chris.

I personally LIKE the term Amazon, but there does seem to be a bit of hostility against it. I think a compromise term might be a good solution. I'll let Michelle know what I can come up with...

For me personaly, it's not hostility to the name, it's just a name that's been used several times and we don't need another generic name for a specific setting. In my own humble opinion of course! ;-)

If They Wanna Call 'Em Amazons, They can Call Them Amazons

What matters is how they are played. My fighter goes by the name of Jeremy. The rest of the group recently learned that you don't mess with Jeremy's weapons. They've long known you don't call him "Jerry".

If you want amazons in Nyambe, I aint gonna tell you no. If you want to call them something else, that's your call. While the creation of another, once Nyambe is in your hands and you've run a game or two in it, it's your world. All a world creator can do is give you an outline of the place, it's up to you to make it a place to remember.
